Healed and Sealed (Review 2)

Submitted By: magicmandan

There seems to be a lot of mixed feelings about Healed and Sealed, so I’ll be as thorough as possible in this review. It is a trick that is not in my absolute arsenal and probably never will be, but one that I have to credit for its effect and originality. I’ll start with the cons: This trick requires precise setup that requires time and effort. You will go through a lot of trial and error into making this prop be just right. A problem with the precision needed to create the prop is that if you mess up a measurement or a bend or something else, the trick may not work, and this is not a trick you want to be stuck with not working. Unlike cards or coins, there is no backup if you cannot get Healed and Sealed to work, and you are in trouble. This has happened to me a couple of times, and it was these times that probably keep it out of my absolute arsenal. I have also had trouble getting the last part of the trick to be realistic – don’t get me wrong here, you will see the can closed and hear the fizz pop if you do it right, but if you didn’t prepare something well enough, your spectators might catch something on the can. I’m weighing the preparation and non-fool-proofness of this trick heavy on this review, perhaps heavier than some people would think I should. Pros: I don’t need to tell you that the effect, when done right, is one of the best visual street effects I have ever seen. If you don’t like this trick, you’ve only lost nine bucks, and at least you know the heavily guarded secret, so it is no big deal. It has an impromptu appearance (although it’s far from) and the can is examinable to the agreeable spectator. There is something you can find on the can that gives it away, but your spectators would really have to burn the can to find it. I have had a couple of good experiences with this, several atrocious ones, so while I won’t use it too much, I’m at least glad that I have it. If you buy this effect, know that you are going to have to put the time and practice into it. I would buy it if you really want to know the secret and the cons don’t faze you; skip it if you find the cons to be as nasty as I do. For me, I give it a 4 out of 10.
