This is a tutorial that will show you how I build a wine warehouse/chapel. The inspiration for this model was a black and white illustration in a South African wine tour guide. The building is based on the illustration of BELLINGHAM MANOR in the Franschhoek region.
Picture 1 This shows the main construction work prior to detailing. The structure shows some very nice ornate moulding to the front, as well as the three upper storey windows. The model is built from 'foam core' mounting board and balsa, covered in filler.

Picture 2 This is the first time that I have tried to model a structure with a removable roof (all of my previous buildings have been solid). This picture shows the side entrance with step and a set of resin barrels. The whole thing is based on a 6mm MDF off-cut and will be textured later. In this view you can also see the ridge for the tiled roof to rest on.

The next two pictures show the house half way through painting. The walls have been painted using Dulux 'solid' emulsion as I had run out of white at the time that I was working on this. The 'sold' emulsion is very easy to dry-brush! I have then washed the walls to 'dirty the white'. The roof is painted with acrylics and dry-brushed (nearly finished), while the barrels were first painted black, before being dry-brushed and finished. I still have to complete the groundwork, and varnish, but it will be done soon. The interior has a red tiled floor and will have a resin table fitted.
The window are painted black, then blue, with a white highlight in one corner, the moss was painted on later, but does not appear in the original illustration (artistic licence!) Doors next (they will be made from plastic card or balsa) - you will have to wait and see.
So far the structure has stood up well, but I am not convinced that the foam board walls and decoration will last.

The model is 8.5 inches (21cms.) tall.
