!Aqui Estoy y No Me Voy!

Welcome to Behind Prison Walls' website!

Robert/Bob "Moco Verde" Morrill spent his career in various areas of law enforcement.  Many of those years were spent working with prison gangs.

This is a site dedicated to educating people on the history of the Mexican Mafia, and how the gang assumed control over several state and federal prisons. The information contained in this site are true, and are based on the experiences of the author and others.

The Mexican Mafia, The Story

This book was gleaned from more than 3 decades of personal experience and stories from those inside the Mexican Mafia. The book allows the reader to trace back in time when this insidious gang had it's start in 1957 at the Deuel Vocational Institute in  Tracy, California and brings them to the end of 2005.  Learn from first-hand accounts how this gang started and evolved into one of the most powerful prison gangs in the nation.

About the Author

Moco has a distinguished career in law enforcement. He began as a Deputy Sheriff in Santa Barbara County in the 1960's, and later retired from the Monterey Park Police Department. He later lived in Texas, where he served as a Probation Officer and a Texas Security Threat Group Coordinator.

Bob is one of the four members who started the California Prison Gang Task Force in 1972, and his connections with those in the penal system are extensive. His experiences were so vast the he is regularly called to speak to various groups on the book and other topics of related interest.

He holds a life membership in the International Latino Gang Investigators Association, among other law enforcement groups.  (Please see Links)

Bob was also a Technical Advisor in the movies "American Me", "Blood In Blood Out" and a cameo appearance in Cheech and Chongs "Up In Smoke".

"The Traffic Stop"

My next book will go into the detail of what became a very controversial traffic stop.  There were only four persons that actually know what occurred that night in February, two eMe members and two police officers. One of the eMe members, Armando “Mundi” Varela, who is deceased, and Alfred “Alphy” Sosa who is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Ellen Delia at Pelican Bay Prison in Northern California.

When I use the term controversial, it is used by some of the defendants and their attorneys.  We (Joe Delia and I) told the true story as it unfolded, the defendants told their own version of what occurred.  Unfortunately, there were some fellow members on the Monterey Park Police Department that got involved in the politics that had our department split in half. These members got wound up in the arrest in an attempt to destroy the Chief of Police, Jon Elder.  Due to their testimony for the eMe members on trial, most all of Joe Delia’s testimony and mine was stricken from the transcript.

This case never even made it to trial.  It was at the time the longest pre-trial case in the California courts, it went on for seven years.  “Alphy” Sosa pled guilty and is still serving the sentence. The cases against the others were dismissed, except for Michael Delia who got off for time served.  I think the reader will find this book very interesting.
