Luck-vs-Skill

Yes I admit Texas holdem is a game of stats and percentages(%), but sometimes those % can be very betraying. I am sure every one reading this knows exactly what Im talking about. i.e. Your sitting down with pocket aces and the short before you pushes all-in, you immeditaley call. He reveals K,Q suited and you show the rockets. Now statistically you are a huge favorite, I beleive you have 82-83% edge to his 17-18%. Then on the flop hits two suite cards for him, which turns his 17-18 to about 37.5%, completely rediculous right. Well he still needs that last suite card to win. Oh and there is no draw on the flop. The turn comes down, useless to both players, and then on the river there is the suite card he needs to winthe match. Total b.s. i know, his 20% out lucks your overwhelming 4to 1 80%. Now your wondering where your aces ever good against such a luckbox.

The simple answer is yes, you played it right, he is not going to crack your aces everytime, he just got really lucky. One important factor to remember is skill is always at your side, luck isnt. Luck is inconsistant and unreliable two traits that arent that great to posess in poker. In the long run the skilled player plays better and wins more. Luck is temporary, but skill is one of the few poker tools you can always call upon.

I would take Phil Hellmuth Jr. over Chris Moneymaker ANYDAY!! (little joke for you, i have respect for chris moneymaker)
