Raising is one of the simplest, and obviuos aspects of Texas Holdem. There are many hands you should raise with. How much you should rauise is the question? If you have a decent hand hand like a,j suited or a,q suited, its cutomary to throw a bet 3x the big blind. If your holding a stronger hand like a,k kk, qq, jj, or 10,10 its a good idea to throw out a bet of 4x th e big blind. Now in my opinion if you have a,k suited or unsuited you should throw out a bet about 5x the big blind. A,k is a very strong hand, but, any pair beats it before the flop, so its vunerable. So, you want to scare off any weaker hands, and if you do get called, your in position to hit top pair to have them beat. When your playing with AA, you most likely want to slow play so its a good idea to raise small like 2x the blinds, and hope someone senses weakness and re-raises so you can come over the top. All these large raises are a reflection of holding a good hand. Most of the time if someone raises standard or higher they got the goods. Although, there are some who like to gamble, so be cautious. 9 times of 10 if you bet out its obvious you have a hand and dont want to be tangled with. People will see that and respect it unless that other person also has a hand. Try to keep your emotions in checks and your betting patterns various when holding the much desired monsters. So when betting follow the blind structure 3,4,or 5x the blinds, and your hand strength.
