Hello, I'm Rene, a mother to a CDH angel named Gregory Zion and celebrity spokesperson for CHERUBS.  I created this page as a way to reach people who may have just found out they are pregnant with a CDH baby or if you feel that you were misled into having a c-section with your CDH or other special needs baby in the past.  Upon finding out the news it is easy to feel like you have no control over the circumstances and rely completely on medical advice.  I'm here to suggest "it is your choice", what you do and how you do it.  You are the mother of this child and only you can decide how you want to give birth to this baby. 

I was one that felt like I didn't have a choice in the matter and I went on like a zombie taking advice from medical professionals that in my opinion just wanted an extra dollar.  I know that for some, the Doctors' advice is sound, but it's not the only choice and we are convinced to believe that it is.  My dream was to have a water birth and I was told over and over again that I couldn't.  I never understood why, but I didn't care to research it and I only went with what the medical staff told me.  I had a scheduled c-section and felt that something was missing.  Although having a c-section is good for emergencies and has been proven to be safe, I don't think it is right for every special needs case.  My son survived six months and it is two years since he passed on and I still feel like a part of me is missing because of lack of choice.   

It is my goal here to make sure that you know you have choices.  This site is not intended to give medical advice, but is a personal goal of persuading you to make the decisions for yourself.  Do your research from this website and online, interview Doctors and professionals, meet other CDH parents to find out what their birthing stories are and make that decision on your own.  The real issue here is "choice" and I believe that you have a choice to do what you want with your body and how you want to birth your precious CDH baby.
