Custom Work vs. Drag and Drop Site Building
Why is it that so many people have joined us with various "do-it-yourself" websites, such as MySpace©, as opposed to building a webpage in html format, or having one built? Simplicity? Perhaps. Some such sites contain hundreds to possibly thousands of users...at a time. This can cause serious complications in server functioning. How many of you have a MySpace© account? Or perhaps another account like it?
I have spoken with many people that I know that are avid users of such sites and have complained to me that frequently such sites lag tremendously, as well as the occasional virus infecting their computers. I am not saying that such sites are entirely responsible for controlling the content that various users, some of which can be quite malicious, though such content can leak through their system security and onto your computer. First and foremost, make sure you are running a virus protection program at all times, especially while on the internet.
It is not that I am saying that such sites are not to be used and that I am entirely against them, but I find a certain satisfaction in seeing a completed work, whether that be a simple, plain page or it be a complex masterpiece, knowing that it is a reflection of the user as it is fine tuned to suit their needs, including several options that are unavailable from such sites as MySpace©, Yahoo! GeoCities©, or, even the current sponsor of our site, Freewebs©.
