region viAtlantic Automated Tubig Machine” was introduce at the Dona Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School on September 5, 2007 as project of The Student Technologist and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines - Region VI.

Mrs. Victy Carbon, Education Supervisor II- TLE, Secondary Education Division of DepED Region VI had come all her way to grace the said eventful occasion. She was properly introduced by Mrs. Naneth L. Benedicto, HT VI-TLE, DMLMHS.

STEP’s main objective is to enhance the students skills in the field of technology, home economics, agriculture, fishery arts, computer education and other disciplines of TLE. This will likewise open the minds of the students in the field of entrepreneurship which is the top priority of the National Youth Commission.

regionviMr. Federico Pillon, Education Supervisor I- EPP/TLE of DepED Silay City was the focal person who initiated the launching of the STEP in this division. For the past 7 years, DepED Silay has been inactive in this program. Mrs. Carbon was very pleased for Silay had at last joined this program. “Now, I can retire from the service since my wish is already granted. All 17 divisions of Region VI had joined the STEP,” stressed Mrs. Carbon.

Hon.Jose “Oti” Montelibano had supported the project. He was represented by Mr. Jade La-o, Chairman on Youth Council, Silay City, who likewise read the message of the honorable city mayor and inducted the STEP students and teachers officers, division level.

The project was properly presented and discussed by Mr. Reynaldo Ofamen, TLE teacher, DMLMHS and STEP Adviser. The audience was inspired by the message of the Service Provider, Mr.Dennis Ledesma, who was also an alumnus of the DMLMHS, E. Lopez Extension High School.The brief program ended with the ceremonial drinking of water from the ATM initiated by the STEP officers followed by the guests.

The contestants are the first place winners of the STEP — School Level Skills Development & Competitions. Hermosa National High School is hosting the 6th Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines—Division Skills Development & Competition.

“STEP: Moving Up from the Underground (School & Backyard) to Mainstream Economy” is this year’s theme which focuses on expanding organization’s structure and program in all
year levels; continuing implementation of Technology & Livelihood Education participation in One Province One Product Program of the President; upgrading teachers’ capability in handling life skills development training of students; implementing the awards program of STEP; encouraging the participation of elementary level in skills development and competitions all levels and establishing linkages with other government agencies, organizations and the community

Contest categories are Pattern Drafting and Construction of Ladies Long Pants, Creative Hairstyle and Facial Makeup, Table Setting, Cocktail Mixing, French Style Sardines Making, Pumpkin Pie Making, Birthday Cake Decorating, Asexual Propagation, Dish, Gardening, Project Proposal for Layer Production, Bangus Deboning, Residential Wiring Installation, Construction& Upholstering a Stool, House Planning, Mural Painting, AM Radio Assembly, Photographic T-shirt Printing, Welding, Plumbing, Starter-Motor Assembly, PowerPoint Presentation, Electronic Spreadsheet, Homepage Development Desktop Publishing, ICT-Assisted Project Proposal, Mr. & Miss STEP 2006, STEP Techno-Quiz., and Parliamentary Procedure.

 

Alaminos City National High School emerged as the national champion in the Bangus Deboning Competition represented by Belen Recosana, a junior student of the said school.

pangasinanThe 15 year-old lass bested her counterpart from all over the country and impressed the judges with her unconventional and precise deboning method, an art she learned from her teacher-coach Mrs. Myrna Rabina, herself, a skilled bangus deboner.

Her schoolmate, Mark William Vidanes, almost made it a twin-feat for Alaminos City only to settle for a worthy consolation- as one of the five national finalists in the Table Setting Competition.

Both Recosana and Vidanes first proved their worth in the team when they ruled the division level, thereby, helping ACHNS win the over-all championship.

YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND COOPERATIVISM IN SCHOOLS or YECS

VISION:
A shift from the employment-seeking orientation to employment-creation culture by nurturing the entrepreneurial and cooperative environment, skills and competencies.

MISSION:
Equip students with entrepreneurial and cooperative skills and attitudes, and knowledge on entrepreneurship and cooperativism in order to evolve them into creative, innovative, productive and responsible citizens capable of establishing their own business ventures, thereby providing more opportunities for self and others.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
Generally, the program aims to:

  • Enhance the culture and instill the values of entrepreneurship and the formation of ideas and habits of cooperation among students;
  • Develop the personal entrepreneurial competencies (PECs) of students in the operation of a micro-business cooperative; and,
  • Help alleviate poverty and encourage long-range economic development in the countryside through career enhancement programs and provision of lifelong learning for productive living.

Specifically, the Program is designed to:

  • Institutionalize YECS organizations among public and private high schools nationwide by establishing networks with private organizations and other government agencies having expertise in entrepreneurship and cooperativism;
  • Provide the students with specialized training and assistance on entrepreneurship and cooperativism for them to create their own sources of livelihood;
  • Expose the YECS members in different industries and technologies for them to create a base for their own business ventures within the school or in the future.
