REHEARSAL & CONCERT TIME DECORUM:
1. All orchestra members are expected to be in their designated seating (on time), and prepared to start rehearsal (concert) with the tuning as designated by the Concert Master.
2. All orchestra members are encouraged to help with the set up and break down of music stands and other related equipment for rehearsals and concerts.
3. Please turn off your cell phones during rehearsals and at concert time.
4. Please, never just “walk out” of a rehearsal, or show up late, without prior notification to the orchestra manager and conductor. As always, your communication will help us to better understand your needs, and will also aid in maintaining our orchestra.
PRACTICE, REHEARSAL & CONCERT REQUIREMENTS:
PRACTICING: In order to maintain the musical progression of our orchestra, some personal practice is required. Individual practicing outside of rehearsal time IS your homework to develop skills and confidence on your parts. Use your Practice Journals at rehearsals for personal and requested assignments. Address questions at rehearsals to the conductor, and or, your section leader if you have any problems with certain parts in your music. Please budget your weekly time to accommodate a practice schedule.
Suggested Practice Time: 4 times a week @40 minutes each; Minimal
5-6 times a week @60-90 minutes; Recommended
REHEARSALS: Rehearsal time is for group ensemble instruction, style, musicality, and ensemble preparedness. Please prepare all individual musical parts by way of personal practice outside of the group rehearsals. PRINCIPAL POSITIONS: Please send in your music folder to the orchestra prior to any rehearsal if for any reason you may need to miss that rehearsal. Your parts may need to be covered by other musicians to help maintain ensemble practice.
CONCERTS: Concerts are best performed, and the most confident, when the individual musician’s parts have been mastered to the best their ability; and when all orchestra members are regular in attendance and on time at rehearsals.
UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS:
WOMEN: Traditional long concert black. The dress should also be of a somewhat “conservative” appearance; please use good judgment in regards to length and front/back cuts. Added designs are also discourage. Black dress shoes are preferred.
MEN: Traditional “tuxedo-like” look. Tuxedos are preferred; a dark suit (black, navy blue or gray) is acceptable. Must use a white shirt with a collar: black shirts or collarless shirts are unacceptable. Please use black bow ties only. Long overhand ties are unacceptable. Black dress shoes with black socks are preferred.
There is
not a registration requirement for membership in the Desert Community
Orchestra. Members wishing to make a
voluntary donation are greatly appreciated.
A suggested donation of $25.00 (or any amount) per Fall and per Spring
sessions will go towards the orchestra’s operations. Please make checks payable to: The Desert Community Orchestra.
