DAY THREE: SUNDAY

We slept really late on Sunday; we rolled out of bed around 11:30AM, realizing we were supposed to check out at 11. Whoops! The six of us quickly packed up and changed into our costumes for the day. I was happy to finally debut my Julia Heartilly from Final Fantasy VIII costume at a con; I'd made it back in 2004 and had yet to wear it for anything other than a small photoshoot. AkaneSaotome was in a similar situation, as she was wearing Ash Ketchum for the first time since she'd made it a few years ago. Her wig was especially awesome! Mike wore Eriol from Cardcaptors, while Starlightslk did Robin again. After our cars were all packed up, we did a last loop around the con. We were really amused to find that many of our paper hats from the night before had reappeared in various places around the con! I also got some awesome photos of my Julia costume upstairs in the lounge where Masquerade judging had been held the day before, and Dizzy, Starlightslk and I took a "Red Velvet Cosplay" photo of the three of us in front of the fireplace in the lobby.

By mid-afternoon we decided it was time to say good-bye to the con, and, as we were all pretty hungry, time to take the cosplay party to a local pizza/arcade/mini golf place. Dizzy, his sister and her boyfriend, Starlightslk, Mesoian, AkaneSaotome, Mike and myself got in our cars and caravanned to the arcade, where we got a nice big party table and plenty of pizza. After that, we played a rousing game of mini golf. They had the most elaborate indoor course I'd ever seen; we found ourselves crawling through caverns, scaling castle walls, dodging pyramids, and even launching our balls off of a huge ski jump! I was doing pretty terribly at first, but finally sunk a hole in one off the pirates' treasure chest in a giant lagoon.

After we were mini golfed out, we decided it was time to head to the arcade to . . . what else? Play some games! We made the rounds of the various offerings briefly, before settling on DDR. As a dancer I've always wanted to play DDR, but because I don't own it myself and therefore haven't been able to get the hang of it in the privacy of my room, I've been reluctant to try at cons and suck in front of a giant crowd of people. I figured my dance skills would allow me to pick it up quickly, but the mechanics of it itself completely different, and require practice. Here, however, among friends, I figured it would be a great chance to give it a shot. Wow, I sucked pretty bad at first, but I got better as the evening wore on, and graduated from "beginner" to "easy." However, it was SO MUCH FUN! I could have played all day. It was also hilarious to see Robin and Julia battling it out, trying not to trip on their skirts. Once I was done, expert DDR-ers Mesoian and AkaneSaotome went head to head with some of the most difficult songs the arcade machine could crank out. They were absolutely amazing to watch, and drew a crowd of other people in the arcade, who came over to witness the Bleach vs. Pokémon DDR action. In the end, AkaneSaotome won by a hair, and the audience which had gathered broke out into applause. Regardless, it was a very close match. I barely saw either of them make a single mistake.

I would have thought Akane and Mesoian would have needed to recover after that, but they got right back on the machine for a rematch, while Dizzy and Starlightslk wandered off for another round of golf. I hung out a bit chatting with everyone and played some Skeeball until I had a nice batch of prize tickets. Soon, Mesoian and Akane came in, out of breath but loaded with DDR tickets, and tried to figure out what to turn them in for. We all hung around for a bit longer, but soon it was almost 7PM and time to head home. We collected everyone and made a collective stop at the local gas station before saying our goodbyes in the parking lot and heading our separate ways. All in all, it was a fabulous weekend, and I was glad to have met some great new friends!
