Halo Trial

In Halo Trial, you can experience both single and multiplayer gameplay, including limited vehicle combat. In the single player campaign level The Silent Cartographer, you assume the role of super-soldier Master Chief as you take on the fierce alien faction known as the Covenant. In the multiplayer map Blood Gulch, up to 16 human opponents can light each other up with devastating weaponry and combat vehicles, including the new M 12A 1 Warthog LAAV (Rocket Warthog) and the Banshee, either online or via LAN connection.

Story

The year is 2552. Planet Earth still exists, but overpopulation has forced many of her former residents to colonize other worlds. Faster-than-light travel is now a reality, and Earth's unified government, through the United Nations Space Command, has put its full weight behind the colonization effort; millions of humans now live on habitable planets in other solar systems. A keystone of humanity's colonization efforts is the planet Reach, an interstellar naval yard that builds colony ships for civilians and warships for the UNSC's armed forces. Conveniently close to Earth, Reach is also a hub of scientific and military activity.

Thirty-two years ago, contact with the outer colony Harvest was lost. A battlegroup sent to investigate was almost completely destroyed; only one badly damaged ship returned to Reach. Its crew told of a seemingly unstoppable alien warship that had effortlessly annihilated their forces.

This was humankind's first encounter with a group of aliens they eventually came to know as the Covenant, a collective of alien races united in their fanatical religious devotion. Covenant religious elders declared humanity an affront to the gods, and the Covenant warrior caste waged a holy war upon humanity with gruesome diligence.

After a series of crushing defeats and obliterated colonies, UNSC Admiral Preston Cole established the Cole Protocol: no vessel may inadvertently lead the Covenant to Earth. When forced to withdraw, ships must avoid Earth-bound vectors -- even if that means jumping without proper navigational calculations. Vessels in danger of capture must self-destruct.

On Reach, a secret military project to create cyborg super-soldiers takes on newfound importance. The soldiers of the SPARTAN-II project rack up an impressive record against the Covenant in test deployments, but there are too few of them to turn the tide of the war.

Existing SPARTAN-II soldiers are recalled to Reach for further augmentation. The plan: board a Covenant vessel with the improved SPARTAN-IIs and learn the location of the Covenant home world. Two days before the mission begins, Covenant forces strike Reach and annihilate the colony. The Covenant are now on Earth's doorstep. One ship, the Pillar of Autumn, escapes with the last SPARTAN-II and makes a blind jump into deep space, hoping to lead the Covenant away from Earth.

IMPORTANT

Photosensitive Seizure Warning
A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these "photosensitive epileptic seizures" while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms - children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures.

The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions:

* Play in a well-lit room
* Do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued

If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing. "

Note: If you experience any compatibility problems with Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 256MB video cards, please download the strings.dll file below:

Halo Hot-Fix v1.07: The Halo for Windows v1.07 Hotfix addresses a rare hang that could occur if a malicious individual (hacker) purposely imitates a game server and sends invalid data to a server. This hot-fix changes the version number of Halo for Windows and the Halo for Windows Dedicated Server to v1.07 from v1.06.

NOTE: Due to an incompatibility discovered between some systems and the updated auto-patcher released with version v1.05, users of v1.05 will have to manually download an updated auto-patcher and run it from the Halo directory to receive this latest update. Users updating from the current 1.06 version, or versions prior to 1.05, can auto-patch from the game. This issue only affects users still running the old version 1.05.

Instructions for manually updating the Halo for Windows auto-patcher (for Halo v1.05):

1. Save the auto-patcher update file below to the game install directory, such as c:\program files\microsoft games\halo. Overwrite the existing file. Remember to "save" this file, don't try to "open" it directly from the Web site.
2. After saving the file to the proper location, double-click the exe to install. If you receive an error message (such as strings.dll not found) you likely did not save it to the proper game install directory.
3. Start Halo and the new updated auto-patcher should prompt you to update your version to v1.07.

Versions other than v1.05 can auto-patch, or download and run the file below.

Release History

The Halo Update v1.031 added to the changes from v1.02, providing many options to allow servers to automatically prevent players from repeatedly killing teammates, by setting thresholds for automatic temporary or permanent bans, and limitations to the amount of damage teammates can do to each other. This update also includes a number of other new options and improvements, which are detailed in the release notes.

Note: Due to technical changes made for this version, checkpoints saved in previous versions of the game will now load at the beginning of their respective levels; progress through these levels will be reset. It is recommended that you complete your current level, which will unlock the next level, before applying this update.

All updates to the Halo Dedicated Server are documented in the Halo Dedicated Server Readme file, which is available here: Halo Dedicated Server Readme.

The Halo Update v1.02 added support for multiple instances to our (Bungie) dedicated server, enabling us and the community to roll out many more servers for gamers. Also introduced were client support for RCon (Remote Console), allowing dedicated server operators to have control over their servers running in data centers.

Also available is the Halo for Windows Technical and Performance FAQ, which answers most frequently asked technical questions about Halo for Windows.

Each time you join or create an Internet multiplayer game, Halo automatically checks the Internet for the latest update. You may also run the stand alone updating tool, haloupdate.exe, from the root of the folder where Halo is installed. This is usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo.

A dialog box indicating that Halo is “Checking for update.” is displayed.

If there is an update available, your current game is shutdown, the update is downloaded and installed, and the game is restarted. If you choose to cancel out of your update, you are returned to the Multiplayer screen. The next time you attempt to join or create an Internet multiplayer game, the process starts all over again.

Note: If there is a Halo update available, you must allow the update to download and install, if you wish to continue playing multiplayer Halo. In order to maintain your ability to connect to or host multiplayer games of Halo, it is recommended that you install the latest update when it becomes available. In addition, you must be logged in as an Administrator of the computer in order to successfully install any updates for Halo.

Walkthrough

STARTING THE GAME

Open Halo Trial. Like all video games, you will find yourself in the main menu. Once you create your profile, click Campaign.

When you click Campaign, you will see four difficulty options. Choose one. Each one is harder as it proceeds downwards.

CAMPAIGN

The game starts with a popular level on Halo: Combat Evolved, The Silent Cartographer. The game opens up with two Pelicans flying towards an island. You're in the front Pelican.

When the Pelican begins to descend, a whole battle is in progress. You arrive just in time. Prepare for some Covenant ass-kicking. It's time to do what you do best.

Switch to your M6D Pistol with the Tab key. Take out the Elites first, then proceed to take out the Grunts with the MA5B Assault Rifle.

When you defeat the first blockade, continue on to find another blockade. This one has a different type of squad. Instead of Grunts, you'll be facing Jackals. Use the M6D Pistol to take them out through the holes on either side of their shield.

Once you eliminate the rest of the foes, Foehammer (a.k.a. Echo 419) will drop you off with a M 12 Warthog LRV. Hop into the M 12 Warthog LRV and head the direction its front is pointing. Don't forget to bring some of your marines with you!

Drive around the island until you find a field full of Covenant. Drive past them while your marines take them down and continue up the hill.

Stay on the hill and procede to the structure. Drive around the area while killing the Elites and the Grunts around. Be careful not to get stuck by the Grunts while they throw Plasma Grenades on you.

Get off the structure and procede to an area with three Jackals and two Purple upright boxes. Take out the Jackals and collect the Over Shield. Then procede up the structure and go inside, taking out every Covenant you see.

Continue down the ramp and prepare for another battle. Take out the enemies with your weapon. The doors will close and there is nothing you can do about it. Instead, turn back and backtrack to your M 12 Warthog LRV and drive directly left of the structure on your way out on the coastal area.
