Catholics-At-Large

Our Catholic heritage and culture is a permanent gift of the Holy Spirit, but some of us find ourselves uprooted from time to time by confusion in our lives or in our parishes. Some of us find ourselves living in places that have few or even no places to attend Mass or find fellowship with other Catholics. That culture is a very deep-rooted seed that grows and blooms wherever it is planted.

I was in a discussion in a Catholic internet board and I mentioned that I walk to church. Someone posted right away about how blessed I am, because she must drive an hour or more to find a Catholic Mass. That inspired me to open this website for individual Catholics, catholicsatlarge.com.

I have a small crafts & collectibles business, and so I have posted a link to my ebay store. If you are an individual Catholic and you make crafts or have some other artistic resource, I am willing to post a link to your sales. Contact me for details.

I am planning to publish a quarterly print magazine about Catholic life. This will be a general-interest magazine, not a theological publication.

Plans for this site

My plans for this site are to include a complete list of links to official Catholic websites, starting from where I am in Texas and working outwards, to include previews of material in the print magazine, and to include some links to individual Catholic writers, artists and craftspeople who participate in Catholics-At-Large. For now the site is simple text. The artistic design will be upgraded as I go along.

I am paying for the website myself. The magazine will be supported by subscription and by advertisements. A sample issue should be available by May, 2008. Articles-in-progess include a memoir of artist Marshall McLuhan-collaborator Rene Cera, an overview of Catholic parishes in Texas, and columns by Steve Kellmeyer, articles about the crisis in the arts and culture. Please contact me if you are interested in writing the following kinds of articles: childhood memoirs, reviews of books or media, notices of parish festivals or special events, pictures of your artwork and craftswork. Artists and illustrators also welcome.
