Roots & Shoots is the Jane Goodall Institute's (JGI) global, environmental and humanitarian program for youth. It is an international network of young people and thier mentors who are committed to making the world a better place for all living things. Although Roots & Shoots groups come from more than 68 different countries, speak different languages and range in age from toddlers to young adults, we are united by the belief that we can make a positive impact on our communities and the world around us.
GrassRoots & Shoots NIGERIA is a group of young Nigerians that promotes care and concern for people, animals and the environment through educatonal activities and hands-on service project. As a member of the international network of Roots & Shoots groups worldwide, we foster respect and compassion for all living things, we promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, we also inspire each individual to take an action to make the world a better place for the environment, the animals and our communities. Our group is a window for young people who have realised that they have a part to play in securing a better world for the future, and have decided to make a change.
We are making our environment a better place by engaging young people in community development activities such as cleaning up exercise, planting of trees, creation of gardens, volunteer activities in old people's home, ophanages etc. Through active participation in our projects, participants get to learn valuable environmental knowledge and information needed to build their capacity as potential community leaders. To be part of the change, you must realise that our wonderful world is suffering under the strain of exploitation and waste. It is time to do something about it and show positive commitment to change. We believe that commitment starts with individuals recognising thier responsibilities to the environment...
