Gypsy Gerbil's
Gerbils of the Next Generation

Welcome!

Gypsy Gerbil's welcomes you to our webpage... and we hope that we can help you. Any questions can be directed at our e-mail address, Quality_Gerbils@Yahoo.com .
I've been breeding and selling gerbils for a year now, and have many selective breeding pairs as well as some choice colors. As well as gerbils, we sell  rabbits: see below for more information.

Gerbils?

Gerbils originated in Mongolia, but other breeds (such as the rare Egyptian) are available through breeders who have bred those types. Vary rarely you'll find an Egyptian in the pet store... and if you do, this is a vary odd occurance, indeed! Many people often confuse the gerbil with a mouse, and for that reason refuse to own one or permit them in their house; however, once you actually handle a gerbil, you can really tell how they have many different personalities (and not all of them bad!).

Gypsy Gerbils...?

Gypsy Gerbils was named for the female who started the whole process; she is a siamese colored gerbil who had four litters. From her four litters came many of my base breeding pairs today. Most of the fourteen she had are a black/slate gerbil, but her first litter included a sapphire (a mix between a lilac and a dove). Pictures available later.

Breeding Gerbils

Any other site you go to will tell you the same thing: preperation for breeding takes a while to do, but if you're determined, it can be done. The first question you should ask yourself: why am I interested in breeding? If profit is your number one goal, you're sadly mistaken! Breeding can be expensive, and often the profit is to be had by the pet stores (in other words, the food and bedding are costing more than the actual sale of the gerbil pups). Secondly, if you have no goal other then to "try out" breeding, I wouldn't breed. If you have no time to commit to your gerbils and pups, then the neglect can often cause your gerbils to become "non- people friendly"... and selling gerbils that bite will not boost any sales! Happy, tended to gerbils will be friendly and often times be more active... and as a result live much longer. See the breeding section for more on this subject.

What owning Breeding Gerbils Means...!

As you can see in Whitney's(of Wisdom Gerbils)gerbil pups, by week 2-3 they are nicely furred, have eyes open, and are for the most part look like they will when they get older. Some gerbils however, "molt" at about 3 months of age. The schimmel, for example, changes color drastically when it gets older. This is one little cute ball of wonder (and work!) You have to look foreward to if you plan on having breeding gerbils. It's well worth everything. (Wisdom Gerils is located in Portland Oregon... for more info contact me)
