Activities

Here's a few interesting things for you to try out. Sports, clubs and trips to the lovely village of Hogsmeade. Please feel free to read through the descriptions of each. Find one you like and you might think of joining when school starts.

Quidditch

For anyone who does not understand the game of Quidditch, it is fairly simple. There are four balls. One is the Quaffle. The Chasers pass it to each other and try to score it in the other teams hoops. The Keeper defends the hoops. There are two Bludgers. They fly about the field and try to knock players off their brooms. The Beaters hit the Bludgers with their clubs and knock them away from their teammates. The last ball is the Golden Snitch. It is the most important ball of the game, but nearly impossible to find. The Seeker tries to catch the Snitch, and when they do the game is over. For every goal with the Quaffle the team receives 10 points. The Seeker who catches the Snitch receives 150 points. Easy enough, right?

Items Required to Play:
  • Broomstick (Commit, Nimbus, Firebolt*)
  • Quidditch robes (robes, pants, gloves, etc.)
Team Requirments:
  • Nine total players per team
  • One captain per team
  • Tryouts must take place
  • No first-years are allowed to join teams (unless they have permission from a teacher)
Other Important Information:
Quidditch season begins in October and ends in May. There are six games in total during which different house Quidditch teams play each other. At the end, the Quidditch Cup is awarded to the winning team.

Clubs

Note: Clubs were postponed last year from the 'High Inquisitor' and will be going unusually slow due to the Educational Decree 450 or something like that. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Charms Club
Very little is known about the Charms Club, except that they practice charms. But they're always looking for new members! If you're interested please let one of the prefects know during your first week of school.

Gobstones Club
Gobstones is a game similar to marbles, but if your opponent misses a point, one of your marbles will spit at them. There are international leagues and we can safely assume that our team is the best! If you're interested, contact the team captain when you get to Hogwarts.

Dueling Club
Professor Lockhart started a dueling club in second year with his assistant, Professor Snape. They were supposed to teach the students how to duel, but unfortunately, this club was unsuccessful after the first meeting. Mayhem broke out when a certain student started speaking Parseltongue to a snake that his opponent had conjured.

Societies

D.A. (Dumbledore's Army)
This group was established by Hermione Granger in the Hog's Head of Hogsmeade in the fifth year. D.A. consisted of students from the houses of Griffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw who were determined to recieve accurate training in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Professor Umbridge, their teacher, was not doing a very good job. The D.A.'s teacher was Harry Potter. This group was cut short when one of the members inside exposed them to the High Inquisitor, who said that all societies that were not approved by her were illegal. After this member exposed them, they were found, trapped and their leader, Potter, was brought to the headmasters office. Unfortunately, after that year ended the D.A. was no longer running.
Known Members: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, Michael Corner, Cho Chang, Marietta Edgecombe (traitor), Colin Creevey, Dennis Creevey, Katie Bell, Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, Susan Bones, Colin Creevey, Dennis Creevey, Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnegan, Hannah Abbott, Lee Jordan, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, Ernie MacMillan, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Padma Patil, Parvati Patil, Lavender Brown, Zacharius Smith, and Hannah Abbott

S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare)
This group defends the rights of house elves and tries desperately to make sure that every house elf (every house elf in Hogwarts, at least) is free to do their own will. The founder (and only active member) of SPEW is Hermione Granger. Their current number of members is 4. Members include: Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom. They expect to go far.

Order of the Phoenix - Members consist only of those who have already graduated from Hogwarts. It was founded by Albus Dumbledore. The Order is a society which is constructed of members who wish to bring Voldemort down out of power. Their missions are spying, recruiting other members and dangerous works. Members of the Order are the following...

Hogsmeade Trips

Hogsmeade is a village just outside the Hogwarts grounds. The shops of the town consist of Zonko's Joke Shop, the Post Office, The Three Broomsticks and the Hog's Head (two different taverns). The students of Hogwarts (years 3 and up) are allowed to visit the village on specified weekends of the year. However, those without permission from a parent or gaurdian cannot visit with the other students. Students may loose the privilege to visit Hogsmeade if they have committed a series offense or broken one of the school rules. Hogsmeade trips will be posted in the dormitories of each house when a trip will be in near future.
