Escape From Azkaban

After his escape, which is still unclear, he did go to Hogwarts, but for a completely different reason. He was suspected to have gone to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to kill Harry Potter, but instead he was after Peter Pettigrew, the very same wizard who he was accused of murdering.

At his years at Hogwarts, Black and his closest friends (James Potter and Peter Pettigrew) became Animigi after discovering that thier other closest friend (Remus Lupin) was a werewolf. By becoming Animigi, they were able to be with Lupin when he transformed. They did not, however, register themselves in the records of Animigi.

Black was caught by Professor Severus Snape, the potions master at Hogwarts, and locked in one of the towers until the Dementors could preform the Kiss. Just as the Dementors were ready to enter the cell, they realized Black had yet again escaped. None of the students, especially Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, who were at the scene of the crime with Black, say they aided in his leaving.

Dementors continued to search for Black, but with less vigor. He was away from Hogwarts and that was their main concern. He remained hidden until June of 1996 when he was killed by a Death Eater--Bellatrix Lestrange--who was his cousin.
