Lessons

Here is where you can view all the wonderful classes that Hogwarts as to offer and get a feel for what you'll be dealing with when the time comes.

Potions

Potions is taught by Professor Snape (years 1-5). The classroom is in the dungeons, where students learn how to create various potions. Essays that the students write for homework are on the potion ingredients are why they are included in the potions. In class, they create the potions that Professor Snape picks for the day. At the end of the day, they must put their results in a bottle and stack them on his desk. He grades them and hands them back the next Potions class.

Defense Against the Dark Arts

There is a classroom on the third floor in which the D.A.D.A. classes are taught. There is no specific teacher for this class. Every year, there is a new professor for this subject. All the teachers have different curriculum's, and if you would like to see how exactly they did not make it through the year, visit the staff page. The D.A.D.A. classes are supposed to inform you of Dark Magic and how you can prepare yourself for things that may happen in your later years, after graduating from Hogwarts. This is probably the most useful class, but also the most unorganized.

Transfiguration

Tranfiguration is taught by Professor McGonagall. The lessons she teaches the students are almost always advanced and complex magic. Students are required to transform one object to another. They start out with Switching Spells which involve only objects. But as they go down the years, it branches out into animal and human transfiguration.

Charms

Charms is taught by Professor Flitwick. This subject is an extremely important one to master. Spells that are taught in charms often are used in everyday life outside of Hogwarts. If you're having trouble in Charms, you can take a look at our spell book for the incantations and explainations. Remember, mastering charms is important!

Care of Magical Creatures

Care of Magical Creatures is taught by (Professor) Hagrid. Classes take place on the grounds by Hagrids hut or inside the Forbidden Forest. All the creatures they've studied include Hippogiffs, Blast-Ended Skrewts, Flobberworms, unicorns, Nifflers, Bowtruckles and Thestrals. Many of the projects that Hagrid has the students do end up with someone getting hurt and they don't learn too much.

History of Magic

History of Magic is taught by Professor Binns. Students learn about the history of their world, famous witches and wizards and major events that have happened in the past. According to nearly every student at Hogwarts, it is the most boring class in school. Most likely, the reason for this is that the only thing Professor Binns does during class is read.

Herbology

Herbology is taught by Professor Sprout in the greenhouses. The students in her classes experience first-hand how to handle the magical plants. Professor Sprout explains their features and uses and then let's them loose. There are not too many injuries in this class because their teacher is very skilled at what she does.

Divination

Divination is taught by two separate teachers. Firenze teaches the younger students and Professor Trelawney teaches the elder ones. One class is on the ground floor and another is in the North Tower. These two teachers focus on predicting the future by the stars, crystal balls, tea leaves and dream interpretation. Many, including Professor Dumbledore, believe this subject is not important because only a gifted few have the Sight.

Other

Astronomy - Astronomy is taught by Professor Sinistra in the highest tower. Students study and chart planets (their moons) and the stars. Classes take place usually at night.

Arithmancy - Arithmancy is taught by Professor Vector. This is a type of mathematical magic and is an extremely hard subject.

Ancient Runes - Professor: unknown. The students that study this subject learn and memorize the letters of a secret alphabet that are, in some way, related to magic.

Flying lessons - Flying lessons are taught by Madam Hooch. They are only for first year students. Broomsticks are provided for the students, because first years are not allowed to own broomsticks. Madam Hooch teaches them how to hold, care for, and fly a broom properly. This is not a subject that students take throughout the year, but only a few lessons are required.

Apparition lessons - These practice lessons for Apparition tests are strictly for sixth year students only. They include twelve weeks of training for the Apparition tests that student are required to take once they turn seventeen. These courses are taught by a Ministry of Magic instructor, who first teaches them in the Great Hall, then they graduate to Hogsmeade.
