WHO'S SILLABUB? WHO'S CARBUCKETTY? |
|
If you've only seen the Cats movie (like me!) and not a stage show, you might not have heard of Sillabub and Carbucketty, or if you have you may not understand who they are. Here are the answers!
Sillabub and Jemima are usually thought of as the same cat. In most productions, EITHER Sillabub or Jemima is used and both look like the video Jemima.
Sillabub was used instead of Jemima for Broadway in the USA, while in the UK Jemima was used.
However, in the Japanese productions Jemima and Sillabub are both there. Sillabub does the 'Memory' solos and Jemima is a swing.
In Japan, Sillabub is golden rather than black, pink and white. A similar golden design was used in Stuttgart and Hamburg, Germany. But usually Jemima/Sillabub are different names for the same cat.
CARBUCKETTY
Carbucketty was in the first West End UK production in London 1981.
When the production was put on in Broadway, USA in 1982, Carbucketty's name was changed to Carbuckety, with one T instead of two.
Sometimes Pouncival and Carbuckety are thought to be the same Cat with two names - this is not true!
They are separate Cats, sometimes both in the same performance - they look very similar.
