kataw Lao

Honoring Strenght & Courage

Sabai dee friends,

You may ask, why I started this website?  I'll tell you.  I just like to see kataw actions that are going on in this country and around the world.  I can't be there personally so hopefull a lot of you who are involve with the game will share with me your kataw story.  I am promoting the game in my region.  So if you have the passion, join me in building a net-work of kataw players and supporters.  I believe this sport is really great to play and watch.   A lot of people are playing in my community but what cocern me is the youths are not taking up this game.  For one, it is not visible enough.  Another, I belive this is all due to lack of promotion.  People have an impression that this game is too hard to play.   Well, check out what I found on deviantart.com, the artist who took the photo was traveling in Laos and just happen to spotted a couple kids having a kataw match.  That is just one great photo.  It is the grassroot kataw actions like this one that I want you to share.

Artist's Comments

"This is a match of Kataw (the local sport of Laos; basically volleyball but with your feet and using a small wicker ball) just off the main dirt track running through the small village of Muang Ngoi in Laos. Took me absolutely ages to capture the action as i have done!"
