PhotoShop Template Instructions
Getting started...
The
first thing you do is open the template of your
choice and your photo at the
same time.
Make
sure the template is selected by
clicking on it. You should see the
list of the template's layers in
your layers menu. If the layers menu
isn’t visible, then click "Window"
at the top of the screen and then
"layers".
Select
the bottom layer of the template by
clicking on it. This is actually an
empty layer. You want the photo that
you insert to be below every other
part of the template. This bottom
layer is just there to help you
position your photo in the right
place below the other layers. |
|
 |
 |
|
Select
the move tool. It’s the one on the
top right of your tools menu. If the
tools menu isn’t visible, then click
"Window" at the top of the screen
and then "tools".
Next,
click on your photo and drag it onto
the template. Your picture should
appear behind the template itself.
In other words, the template should
overlap your photo. |
Click the
box in front of the words "Show Bounding
Box" at the top of the screen. |
|
 |
 |
|
This will
show you where the outer edge of your
photo is behind the other layers of the
template.
Hold down
your shift key and click on one of the
little squares at the corner of the box.
Now drag your mouse in toward the center
of the photo if you want to make it
smaller or drag it outward if you want
to make it bigger. Once you have it the
size you want, let go of your shift key
and double click the image to
set the size.
Now you can
drag your photo up or down or side to
side, if you want to. |
Once you have the
picture how you want it, move on to changing
the text. Your templates may have one or more
layers with text in them. Layers with text have
a T next to them in the layers menu. Choose one
of the text layers, choose the text tool which
looks like at T in the tools menu, then drag your
mouse over the text to be changed. It will
become highlighted.
In the example
below, you can see that the layer with the name
("Mary Ja…") is selected. The text tool in the
tools menu is selected and the text has been
highlighted.
Now you just simply
type the new text that you want to replace the
old.

Do the same with all
text layers in the template.
And here is the
result:

The following steps
are optional. These are things you can do to
change the look of the template itself, if you
want to.
If you take
a look at the layers menu, you’ll see
that the layers of the template are
labeled. In this example, you see the
background and the inner border around
the picture. If you want to change the
color of one of the layers, select the
layer in the layers menu. Then click
"Image" at the top on the screen. Then
click "Adjustments" and then
"Hue/Saturation". |
|
 |
 |
|
The
Hue/Saturation window will open. You can
play with all three sliders until you
get results that you’re happy with. |
Note the difference
in color of the inner border around the picture
after changing the hue/saturation.

You can do the same
with any layer that isn’t a text layer.
To change the color
of the text, select the text layer you want to
change, select the text tool and highlight the
text as you did when you typed over it.
At the top
of the screen you’ll see a colored box.
Click it to make the color picker open.
Choose any color you want for the text.
If you want
to change other text layers to the exact
same color, make note of the color
number. In this case, 917C60. You can
just type that color in when you do the
other text layers. Of course, there’s no
rule that all of the text layers have to
be the same color. You can make them
anything you want. |

Here’s what the
template looks like now with the name changed to
brown.
