You were so young when you were cast as Wendy. Do you remember your reaction when you got the news that the part was yours?
HD: My best friend and I were in the bathroom playing with makeup and my mom came up upstairs and said, "Get packed. We're going to California." I was so excited.
What is your memory of the experience?
Susan Duff: I think they saw over 200 children. It was grueling. We went to at least five callbacks, and the last one was three-and-a-half hours and had only four children. That was a tough one. Of the finalists, she was the one with the least experience and I didn't think Hilary would get the part. I called our agent and apologized saying, "Well, we gave it the old Girl Scout try." Ten minutes later, we got the call saying she had the part.
