Manitoba

I was hoping for October
when the weather turned.
The great grey cloud
that stood posing in the sun
snatched the summer and
purloined the heat.
I was waiting for October,
forgot what it meant.
I got my coat
and yanked my daughter's
funny blue hat over my ears
mourning what
passed away in August.
