The MAY family come from a town/shtetl, possibly 'Piatishtana', in the province of Minsk, Belarus (White Russia).

 

The male MAY family members are Cohanim, (Jewish Priests).

 

The earliest known ancestor is YAAKOV (YANKEL) (TZVI) HIRSHEL MAY, who died in Minsk, most probably in the early 1900’s. He was a grains and chicken merchant, financially comfortable, never wanting for food. He was highly respected in the community and philanthropic.

 

Yankel Hirshel was married twice-

First wife- name unknown. Second wife-Yetta Willdorf.
