Smart Schools Program partner in Cebu grabs honors in 5th STEP NSDC

T
he 5th Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines National Skills and Competition (STEP-NSDC) is a venue for all secondary students to determine the level of their technical and vocational skills and to recognize the most skilled students in various fields. This year’s competition was held in Baguio City National High School and Teachers Camp, with the theme “STEP Moving Up from Underground (School and Backyard) to Mainstream Economy.” It was organized by the Department of Education – Central Office through the leadership of Joey Pelaez, the CSCA director.

   Paul Lester Salomson, a 4th year student of Minglanilla National Science High School received a trophy and cash prize after being adjudged as the 2nd placer of the Newsletter Designing Category using MS Publisher. Salomson was very thankful to his classmates, teachers and to the Smart Schools Program for providing their school with an Internet connection.

     The Newsletter Designing Category was participated in by schools from various regions in the Philippines. The ICT competition is one of the favorite STEP categories with the many new trends in technology today. The gold medal was taken by Region XI while the bronze medal was awarded to Region 2. NCR was represented by Marikina National High School and ranked 4th place.

     Prior to this Paul won the 1st place in Central Visayas regional level making himself qualified for the national while Marian Cal won the 2nd placer in PowerPoint Presentation. Jhoana Carpentero rank 10th yet she is the 1st placer of Provincial web designing competition. Jacob Lagcao and Patricial Villarta won the 2nd place in provincial level for Spreadsheet and Technoquiz respectively while Jeco Osorio got 3rd place in ICT Project Proposal.

       Initial duties of the PTA is to create the constitution by laws, PTA official receipts and approval of 2006 - 2007 budget through general assembly.

MNSHS Rank 3rd place during the STEP - DSDC annual competition

  • The 2006 STEP DSDC was held in Daanbantayan NHS last Sept 21 - 23 2006

  • The affair was participated by 600 teachers and students from 48 municipalities of Cebu Province.

  • Representative of Minglanilla NSHS grab various awards in their own category.

  • The school received 3rd placer as over all winner

Lead by Marian Cal, the team won various awards like, gold for PowerPoint, Newsletter and web designing. It was represented by Marian Cal, Paul Salomson and Jhoana Carpentero. Silver for Techno-quiz by Patricia and Jacob Lagcao for Ms Excel. Bronze for Jeco Osorio in ICT Project Proposal and another bronze for John Rey Reyes while Ross Ann de la Serna grab best in Techno wear.

MINGSCIANS GRAB FIRST IN THREE SCIENCE CONTESTS

  • More than 20 High Schools in the Cebu Province  gathered in Balamban Elementary School during Provincial Science Fair.
  • Minglanilla National Science High School emerged victorious of said competition.

   Charles Catipay from 3rd year zinc and Gio Abastillas from 1st year grab the 1st placer in Science quiz while Marian Aracap grab 3rd place for the  4th year category. Prior to provincial Science fair they are the winners of the District of Minglanilla.
   In the 16th of September 2006, seven high schools in Minglanilla Districts I and II, from as far as Camp 7 to Guindaruhan, gathered in Tulay National High School for this year’s Municipal Science Fair.
      Six categories were contested and they were Quiz Bee (individual), Quiz Bowl (team), Essay Writing, Poster, Slogan-making, and Oration. However, due to lack of time for preparation and earnest request of the participating schools, oratorical contest was postponed to September 30, 2006.
      Aside from oration, all categories were successfully conducted with the efforts of the involved schools, most especially to the host- Tulay National High School.
      Among the aforesaid categories, Minglanilla National Science High School grabbed the first place: Quiz Bee- individual, Gio Abastillas (first year), Meldie Sy (second year), Charles Catipay (third year), and Mayrian Aracap (fourth year) ranked first. For the Quiz Bowl- team, Phoebe Lou Saraña (first year), Jan Marben Banquil (second year), Lord Jeco Garcia (third year) and Irish Tanilon (fourth year bagged first place. Diamond Jeff Paug for essay writing, Ryan Celso Libreas for slogan-making and Neil Badayos for poster-making making won also the first place.

PTA’S DONATION

      ICT Coordinator Jobette T. Escobañas has just received 2 sets of brand new computers from Dr. Pompeyo Alunan, general PTA president and officials. Another TV and DVD player were donated by the previous PTA officials, under the leadership of Mrs. Milagros del Socorro, general PTA president.

    Jobette is very happy to receive the 4 donated items from the aforementioned presidents. He said it’s a big boost to every Mingscians who is hungry for knowledge in computer. Besides, it gives each student a chance to utilize one-on-one hands-on training using Microsoft Office, including Desktop Publishing and Photoshop Adobe.

     Escobañas said such donations coming from the PTA are of great help not only for the students in particular but also for the school in general. Likewise, profound gratitude is extended to Madame Eutiquia S. Alday for her active involvement in the realization of every Mingscians to have computer each during hands-on training.

MARIAN ARACAP CHAMPION AGAIN IN MATH CHALLENGE

Last November 22, the Department of Education, Division of Cebu held the prestigious Math Challenge in Balamban. Marian Aracap, a 4th year student of Minglanilla NSHS rank first in individual category while her team rank 3rd in overall.

On the other hand, the third year represented by Jeff Paug and Judith Leyson rank 3rd in team category. Unfortunately, the 2nd and 1st year representative come home with empty handed. Nevertheless, the competition's standard is getting higher everyone and every winners are products of discipline and intelligence

Sinulat ni J Suradia

Isa sa pinakaaasam-asam ng mga guro at estudyante ng Minglanilla National Science High School ang pag             dating ng bagong principal na mamumuno sa ating paaralan. Hindi lingid sa ating kaalaman na si Bb, Evangelina Largo ang naging Officer–in-Charge nang mawala si Gng. Leonida Lofranco ngunit napagkaisahan ng mga magulang na magpunta sa ating superintendent upang marinig ang isa sa mga pangangailangan ng buong   paaralan. Si. Gng. Eutiquia S. Alday ay nagsilbi muna bilang principal ng Tuyan National High School sa halos dalawampung taon bago siya tinakda dito sa MNSHS at marami siyang nagawang magagandang bagay sa nasabing paaralan.

Nagsimula siyang umupo bilang pangulo sa ating paaralan noong buwan ng Oktubre sa araw din  ng Oath taking ng mga opisyales ng PTA. Naging mainit ang pagtanggap ng mga guro at estudyante kay Gng. E. Alday. Ayon sa mga mag aaral ang mailalarawan nila kay Gng. Alday ay isang mahinahon at kalmante na tao. Mas lalong natuwa ang mga MingScians nang matuklasan nilang hindi mahirap lapitan ang ginang o sa madaling salita “approachable” at lalong matamis pakinggan  ang pagiging “motherly.

Umaasa ang mga MingScians na marami pa silang matutuklasan tungkol kay Gng. E. Alday. Sa kagandahang loob na nakikita at natatamasa ng mga guro , estudyante at ng mga magulang ay di pa sapat  na masilayan natin ang kanyang tunay na pagkatao. Ang buong paaralan  ay patuloy na ngayon sa pag-unlad sa ilalim ng pamumuno ng naturang punungguro.

Libreng Internet mula
sa Globe at Smart

Isa ang Minglanilla National Science High School na maswerteng nabiyayaan ng internet connection para sa 20 kompyuter. Isang taong libreng internet mula sa GILAS na pinangunahan ng Globe at Ayala Foundation noong Oktubre 12, 2005. Kasabay rin nito, ang pagbigay ng Smart at Philippine Business for Social Progress ng libreng internet sa 12 kompyuter. Ito ay isang proyekto na inilunsad ng mga pribadong kompanya na may layuning  magbigay ng Internet lab para sa bawat 5,443 na pampublikong haiskul.

Bali-balita sa buong campus ang pag-alis ng ilang guro sa Minglanilla National Science High School. Unang napabalita ang paglisan ng isang gurong si G. Tom na magtuturo na raw sa elementarya . Sumunod naman ang pag-alis ng dalawang  mga guro na sina Bb. Evangeline Largo na nagtuturo ng asignaturang English at Bb. Merden Largo na nagtuturo naman ng Math. Pagkaraan ay lumipad naman patungong New York upang humanap ng mabuting kabuhayan ang mahusay na titser na si Bb. Maria Victoria Posadas. At ngayon nama’y  sumunod si  Bb. Susana Nebril  patungong Califonia USA makipag-isang dibdib sa nobyo niyang Filipino-American. Umugong din ang balitang magiging permanente ng ICT trainor si Sir Jobette Escobañas sa  Division Training Center.

     Ano kaya ang pumapasok sa mga isipan ng mga gurong ito? Ano kaya ang dahilan? Dahil ba mga pasaway kami at sobrang makukulit? Ilan lamang ito sa mga kagila-gilalas na mga tanong sa paaralan. Salamat na lamang at mayroon ng pumalit sa ilan sa kanila katulad ni Mam Zafanta, Mam Johanes, Sir Ryan and Sir Adolfo. Siguro nga ito ay pagsubok hindi lamang sa mga guro kundi pati na rin sa aming mga mag-aaral. Sana ay magabayan sila ng Poong Maykapal kung ano ang nararapat.

 

MOON RAY NAG-UWI NG TROPHY

Ang STEP Regional Skills Competition ay ginanap sa Calape, Bohol noong Oktubre 26-28, 2005. Ang nasabing paligsahan ay nilahukan ni Moon Ray Gomez Lo ng Minglanilla National Science High School bilang representative ng Cebu Province Division sa Newsletter Making para sa Livelihood Production na ginamitan ng Desktop Publishing.    Sapatimpalak na ito, naiuwi niya ang 2nd  Prize sa STEP RSDC Desktop Publishing Category. Bago ito ay napanalunan niya ang first prize ng division level. Sa ginanap na regional naman ay normal na representante ng bawat division ang kanilang mga science high school gaya ng Cebu City SHS (3rd place) Lapu Lapu SHS (4th). Ang nakakuha ng 1st place ay ang host division ng Bohol Province.
 Bago ito narating ni Moon Ray Lo, kasama niya ang ibang kasali na sina James Arnold Nogra, April Mae Navales, Carmel Jean dela Calzada at Marian Cal, ay lumahok sa STEP Division Contest kasama ang kanilang coach na si Sir Jobette Escobañas na ginanap sa Arcelo Memorial High School.

 

MNSHS ENTRY  IN INTEL
INVESTIGATORY PROJECT  WON  PRIZES


Daryl Dakay's Alternative source of battery solution won a 2nd prize in Regional Intel Investigatory Project held at Deped Nutrition Center, Cebu City last December 15 2005. Jam Jam Sudaria won a 4th place in individual category. There are total of 5 entries from Division of Cebu Province which the three entry come from MNSHS.
The said competition was regularly participated by various high school in Region VII which normally lead by Cebu City Science HS, Lapu Lapu SHS, Dumaguete SHS, Bohol SHS etc.

IN NEWSLETTER DESIGNING


Last December 3 held the awarding ceremony of the 2005 Regional Press Conference at Toledo City Sport Center. It was a grand welcome from the Toledo City Government by presenting  concert of famous local band group, dance number and foods.. At the last day of the competition, one entry of our school, particularly  "omalahokan" newsletter won a prize (4th) for the said event.  Other regional entry such as news, feature and photo journalism entry did not won any prize. However the spirit of every participants are still high since the competition are participated with known universities and college like USC, USJR, CIT, CNU, SILIMAN, ASEAN College, St. Catherine etc. Regular participants from different public science highs school also there.

             Naging isang malaking hamon para sa mga Mingscians ang ginanap na Municipal Sports  Meet  sa Minglanilla Sports Complex noong ika-15 ng Oktubre.Naging matindi ang kanilang pagsasanay bago ang nasabing paligsahan.             Isa sa mga sinalihang laro ng mga Mingscians ay ang badminton. Dahil sa sipag at determinasyon ng ating mga players at ng kanilang coach na si Ginoong Jobette Escobañas, nagawa nilang maiuwi ang karangalan  sa iba’t ibang dibisyon na nakapagdagdag sa karangalan ng paaralan.  Si Alejandro Abellano ang namayani sa male single division matapos ang isang mainit na laro laban sa kanyang katunggali mula sa BNHS. Di rin nagpahuli si Tisha Marie Ongcoy sa female singles at nagdala din siya ng panalo.  Sina Jacob Rabosa  at Ian Español naman ang naghari sa male doubles, habang sina Ronalyn Hisola at Lourey Kate Soriano para sa Female doubles at sina Geffrey Mayono at Claudine Klien Dela Fuente para sa mix division.  Hindi naging madali ang laban ngunit napatunayan ng mga Mingscians ang kanilang galing.
     Sa ngayon ay nagsisimula ng mag-ensayo muli ang mga Mingscians para sa Division Sports Meet na gaganapin sa Ronda ngayong darating na ika-21 ng Nobyembre kung saan maghaharap ang pinakamagagaling na atleta sa buong Cebu.
     Ilan pa sa mga naipanalong laro ng mga Mingscians ay ang mga sumusunod; table tennis female division ni Aileen Tangaha, male Lawn Tennis ni Jake Rizon
     Pagdating sa division atheletic meet ay nakita ng MingScians ang level of competition. nakapanalo ng tag-isa sina Kate at Ronalyn, Tisha at Aileen samantalang kinapos ng energy ang mga boys ng igupo sila ng kanialang ka kontra.

Noong buwan ng Oktubre 2005 ang PTA          ( Parents, Teachers, Association) officers ng Minglanilla National Scince Highschool ay nanumpa na mabibigyang katuparan ang kanilang mga tungkulin para sa ating paaralan. Ito’y pinangunahan ng bagong punungguro na si Gng. Eutiquia S. Alday. Kabilang sa mga dumalo ay sina Milagros del Socorro (pangulo ng PTA), Vilma Lagcao (Taga Ingat Yaman), at iba pang mga nahalal na opisyales pati na mga guro.
