I AM SO EXCITED TO TELL ALL THE WRESTLING WORLD THAT I AM TRAINING A 3RD GENERATION, HE WILL GRACE THE RING WITH HIS FAMILIES NAME AND THE LEGACY THEY GAVE US. I AM TALKING ABOUT MAX MCGUIRK OF THE FAMOUS LEROY MCGUIRK FAMILY.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE MCGUIRK NAME THEN YOU ARE NEW TO THE SPORT OF WRESTLING PRO AND AMATEUR.

LEROY, LOST ONE OF HIS EYES IN A SWIMMING ACCIDENT AT AGE 12 AND LOST THE REST OF HIS SITE IN A CAR ACCIDENT WITH BOB CLAY AS LEROY WAS THROWN AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD AND HIS DARK GLASSES SHATTERING FRACTURING HIS GOOD EYE. MAX'S GRANDFATHER WAS A HECK OF A AMATEUR WRESTLER AFTER LOSING THE QUARTERFINALS OF THE 1930 NCAA TOURNAMENT, HE CLAIMED THE 155 TITLE IN 1931 AND 1932 AT 174.HE IS IN THE WRESTLING HALL OF FAME IN STILLWATER, OKLA TODAY.
HE WENT TO WORK FOR SAM AVERY AFTER COLLEGE AND WON THE WORLD LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE FROM HUGH NICHOLS WHO WAS ENDORSED BY THE NWA AND WON IT BACK FROM DANNY MCSHAIN IN 1938. HE THEN WENT FROM A LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TO A JR HEAVYWEIGHT WHICH WAS 190 POUNDS THEN RAISED TO 200. HE GRABBED THE TITLE FROM JOHN SWENSKI IN 1949 WERE HE DOMINATED THE DIVISON.
HE WAS A GREAT PROMOTER, HE HAD OKLAHOMA, ARKANSAS,MISSOURI,LOUISIANA AND TEXAS. THERE ARE ALOT OF STORIES ABOUT HOW LEROY LOST HIS COMPANY AND I AM NOT GOING INTO IT BUT IT ALL STARTED IN 1979 BETWEEN HIM AND BILL WATTS. WATTS INCORPERATED MID SOUTH SPORTS, INC AND HAD AGREEMENT WITH OTHER PROMOTORS JIM BARNETT, FRITZ VON ERICH, VINCENT MCMAHONAND EDDIE GRAHAM TO KEEP MID SOUTH GOING. 1981 BILL WAS STILL HOLDING THE PURSE STRINGS AND HAD NOT PAID SOME OF LEROYS TOP TALENT AND SO THEY DID NOT SHOW UP TO THIER BOOKINGS SO LEROY HAD TO USE TALENT OUT OF AMARILLO, TX.
LEROY DIED 9-3-1988 IN CLARMORE, OKLA
MAX'S MOTHER MICHELLE "MIKE" MCGUIRK
MIKE AS EVERYONE CALLED HER DEBUT IN WWF4-1987 SPRINGFIELD,MA AS THE FIRST FEMALE ANNOUNCER SHE ALSO TOOK PART IN SPOTS WHERE SHERRI MARTEL WOULD JUMP HER OR HIT HER WITH A CHAIR. SHE WAS ALWAYS HARRASSED IN THE RING BY SID JUSTICE OR BIG BULL BUSICK AND ALWAYS RAZOR RAMON WOULD TRY TO FORCE HIMSELF ON HER BEFORE MATCHES.
SHE LEFT THE WWF IN 1993 AFTER VINCE MCMAHON'S SEXUAL ADVANCES TO HER AND WAS REPLACED BY BONI BLACKSTONE. IN 2004. MIKE APPEARED IN A WWF WRESTLE REUNION WITH SOME OF HER CLOSEST FRIENDS AND IN 2207 SHE WAS ANNOUNED AT A WWE SHOW IN COLLEGE STATION, TX AS ONE OF THIER FIRST WWE DIVA'S
MAX MCGUIRK
JUST GRADUATED WITH AN ACCOUNTING DEGREE IN DECEMBER 2007 HAD A GREAT AMATUER WRESTLING BACK GROUND AND IS NOW GOING THROUGH TRAINING WITH TOM JONES.
I AM SO PROUD THAT THE MCGUIRK FAMILY CAME TO ME AND ASKED IF I WOULD TRAIN THIS MAN. THE MCGUIRK FAMILY HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR ME THAT I COULD NOT REFUSE THE OFFER. HIS MOTHER HAS RAISED A GREAT MAN AND I KNOW HIS GRANDFATHER IS SO PROUD OF HIM FOR THE STRIDES HE HAS MADE SO FAR IN HIS YOUNF LIFE!
I was born in
Savannah,Ga on a small farm and raised by my grandmother we use
to go watch wrestling when I was a kid and was I a big mark! But my grand mother instilled in me the value of a hard days work, to be truthful, honest and believe in the good lord. So I practice this still today.
When I left Savannah I went to Indianapolis to get a job in a factory
doing manual labor the color factor was around so a black man could not get the foreman's job, so I was stuck doing this for less pay than what
the MAN was getting. They had matches there in town every Friday so I would go to them all the time and boo the bad guys, I ended up saying something to Dick the Bruiser and he stopped
and looked at me and it scared me cause I just knew he would kick my bee-hind!
This was in the mid 60's and I lived near a gym were I worked out at and knew a lady that I had no idea that she was in wrestling, her name was Betty Ann Spencer and I was trained by Tony Santos. There were 12 guys in the class and by the time Tony got through with us I
was the only one who showed back up the next day, Tony told me your a toughy eh? Lets really start training now Tony streched me more than he
did yesterday, but I came back everyday so he taught me how to wrestle and some of the old hook and shoot moves you don't see today. The only shooters left are Danny Hodge,Gordon Nelson. Dean Malinko was taught by Carl Gotch so he was taught how to hook too.
My first match was in Boston and it was with Dick the Brusier. I went up to him and shook his hand told him who I was He Said " hey I know you, your were that guy that was talking crap to me a few months back". I told him I was sorry and I was scared. He told me not to worry about it we all were marks some time in life.
I was the first black man to ever wrestle a white man in the south...... and win! It was in Texarcanan at the Natl.Gaurd Armory
ME, MIKE AND MIKE'S BEST FRIEND I BELIEVE IT WAS PEGGY NELSON SORRY IF I GOT THE FIRST NAME WRONG!
ME AND THE MCGUIRK CLAN
I drove up today 8-9-05 to the chapel that my good friend dorothy was laying in all the way there all i could do was think of the good times we all had with the Mcguirk family. Leroy and Dorothy weren't ever out to screw the boys out of money or get the lime light of owning the biggest Pro Wrestling Promotion, NO the Mcguirk's loved the business of wrestling and the boys were their family and they took care of their family!
Dorothy ran the business of wrestling she was the road agent, check signer, metiator, mother, wife and secretary. The boys would come to the Mcguirk office and hang out and bs with Leroy not to cry around for who is getting paid more or other which i take it back there was some of the boys whick i will not talk about that would do that but they were sent packing. Wrestling back then was a family Mike and i were talking about an old timer that just passed away Leonard Clay who was one of Leroy and Dorothy's promoters well anytime Mike would have a boyfriend come to call on her or take her out Leonard was all ways there with a badge and gun showing to the boy which rarely ever showed back up again! Lmao!
Danny Hodge and me. Danny and his unselfish way about him went to Iowa to except the plaque for the Wrestling Hall of Fame for Leroy Mcguirk because Dorothy had already passed on! He presented the plaque to Max Mcguirk today.
Dorothy always had a smile on her face and was always the go between she was so carefree and didn't get in a hurry. I remember one time Leroy was on a rant and Dorothy just walked out of the room and left Leroy there by himself screaming and hollaring. Lol! Then it would get quite and all you could hear was ":answer me Dorothy!" "Did you leave the room?" "Da#$ it Don't do that cause i feel like a Da#$ idiot!" Lmao! But it was a loving home and she has 2 grandkids that i haven't seen since they were baby's. The oldest one Max is going to college and i'm going to train him when he gets out! I'm so excited to beable to help out a Mcguirk because the Mcguirk's always were there for me when i needed them. For the Fans out there Max Mcguirk is the tall good looking one in the blue shirt! He is a lady killer! But i saw a dear dear friend there too Danny Hodge and his lovely Wife they was going to Japan after the funeral so i didn't get to visit with them like i wanted to.I will put up some more pics in here
for all to view. But please keep the mcguirk's in your prayers because Dorothy was the backbone and Mike and the kids have no one to lean on when times are tough. It's like Mike said today "Today it's time for her to grow up." Thoses are hard words but she will do it the lovve i saw today
god will help her be the new backbone for that family and take Dorothy's place in the klan! Mike God Bless you and the Kids, and remember we are all family if you need us we will be there.
Canadian-based SLAM! Wrestling is reporting that former WWF on air personality Lord Alfred Hayes passed away at age 77 yesterday. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD ALFRED WAS A CLOSE DEAR FRIEND THAT WILL BE MISSED BY ALL! THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM WAS IN TEXAS ADN HE SAW ME AND REACHED FOR ME TO HUG ME AND SAID TOMMY MY BOY I'M SO GLAD TO SEE YOU! I ALMOST DIDN'T COME TO THIS. WE TALKED FOR HOURS WITH THE OTHER BOYS AND IT SEEMED LIKE HE FORGOT ABOUT THE PAIN HE WAS IN FOR THAT TIME. THE LORD TAKES US AWAY BUT ALL WERE DOING IS PASSING THROUGH THIS WORLD. GOD'S SPEED LORD ALFRED HAYES!
THIS IS MY SON CODY JONES HE MADE HIS FIRST SHOT ON FEB 19TH 2005 VS DEXTER HARDAWAY HE DID GOOD STAYED WITH DEXTER TILL THE END WHEN DEXTER PINNED HIM CLEAN. i WAS STILL PROUD OF HIM. TOM JONES
It was like a second reunion when WWE came to OKC I made my way to the back to say hi to a few people i knew when i felt a tap on my shoulder i turned around and this guy said "well , hello Tom Jones". I didn't reconize him till he took off his sun glasses .... I screamed Ricky Steamboat! He jumped on me it was like old times! We walked and talked for awhile he is now employed with WWE.Then Rick Flair saw me walking with Ricky. We shook hands and gave each other big hugs talked about the old times asked him how he was doing and he said "great having the time of my life! It's so much easier than the old days with the travel." While i was standing talking to Rick and Ricky some other old timers walked up Steve Kern, Arn Anderson and Jack Brisco! Man this was the best reunion i've ever hade talking about old times Danny Hodge walked up and said come with me i want you to meet somebody. We made our way to the ring were i met Vince Mcmahon, HHH and his new wife Stephanie. Danny said Jr. this is Tom Jones Vince took my hand and said I've heard your name from my dad but We have never met Its a pleasure to finally meet you.I over heard HHH ask Brisco "what if i don't sell to Hodge?" Brisco told him "your going to wish you did cause he will tie your ass up in a knot!" HHH said " oh, well i was just ribbing." But we were in the back when Randy Orton and Dean Malinko came up and said that it was a pleasure to finally meet me that there Fathers and Grandfather have talked about me. I started telling stories about them and i could not get away they wanted to hear more stories! I'll tell some of the stories i told them on my ribs page. All during the night Rick Flair would walk by and thump my in the back of my head or rub my back and say" Tom Jones!" and walk away. That made me fell good that Rick still remembered the good old days were we would stay in crap hotels 5 wrestlers in a 2 bed room . But i had a great time and Vince is not the monster that everyone makes him out to be.He stays on top of every little thing and has Ricky, Dean, Steve and Arn taking care of the new talent. They still Sit in the Gorilla's cage watching the matches and Vince bitches at the person that is taking care of the new talent he does bitch at the wrestler.....I thought wow he has gone back to the old days the bookers get the bitching out and the bookers yell at the boys. Everyone was saying that Vince is going back to basic wrestling and his numbers are now going up in the arena's and not giving away so many comp tickets. I told Steve to watch Dexter Hardaway that he was a good hand . He said that yeah He had been watching him while he worked out there at the Ford center that day. So i'm praying that THIS fine man makes his dreams come true and if i can help in any way i will in a heart beat!
Till then Fans God bless!
