About This Site

This website began in 2005 as a small personal scrapbook (originally called Wordsweb Magazine) of my photographs, paintings and writing - my main leisure interests in retirement after a long career in journalism.  It quickly grew into a full-featured nostalgia & literary magazine with many special interest sections which are frequently updated.  I hope visitors will find plenty of interest here.  If you share any of these interests and would like to submit an article, column, story or some photographs of your own on any related topic please contact me by e-mail or post to Wordsweb Forum

Thank you for visiting. Please come again.

What's
New
This
Month
 ?

I have just embarked on a long overdue site redesign incorporating content from my two earlier websites, Wordsweb Magazine and Wordsweb-Plus which were becoming untidy after three years of piecemeal development. I hope the new design, with clickable image links at the head of each section as well as text menus on every page, will be seen as an improvement.

There is still a long way to go but most of the original content from the former sites is still accessible during the update and more is being added as I go along. In the meantime the discussion group, Wordsweb Forum, is still active.

Thank you for your patience  -  Arthur Loosley

Your host: Arthur Loosley

I was born in London before World War II and have since lived and worked in eight English counties pursuing a career in journalism, initially as a photographer on the now defunct Brighton and Hove Herald. After national service with the RAF I moved around the country, working on newspapers and press agencies in the Midlands before returning south where I was for ten years a special contributor to The British Journal of Photography and occasional book reviewer for The Times Educational Supplement during a fifteen-year spell on The Times picture desk.  My passion for writing and photography has not waned in retirement and I now spend much of my leisure time exploring East Anglia where I now live, and touring the UK to photograph and write about places previously known or newly discovered.

I also enjoy painting and drawing, and my other interests include UK history, restoration projects, folklore and customs, social and industrial history, wildlife, the countryside and vintage transport. If you would like to comment on anything you see here or wish to submit something of your own, please contact me via the Forum. We already have a section for regular columnists and guest writers and will be happy to offer a free page to other suitable applicants.
