18th to 20th century
- The Pasha Er Riffi attempted, just like his predecessor, to strengthen the
ramparts of the city from the previous fortifications. Dutch delivered the
necessary materials and so, the city became in the official correspondence of
period " Tangier good kept ".
The Sultan Moulay Ismaïl made build Dar El
Makhzen's palace and the Big Mosque which is at present street of Marine in
the old town. In 1631, is created the Mission Franciscan under Spanish
patronage.The death of the Pasha Er Riffi, his son Ahmed Ben Ali,
succeeded him in 1713. He administered the city and its region until 1743.
During its "mandate" arose the death of the Sultan Moulay Ismaïl in 1727 and
according to the current custom of period, the Pasha Ali took advantage of
quarrels of succession to behave in independent prince.
