Arts & Crafts Night ~ Thursday!

The Picnic Point PTA invites you & your family to the new & improved family fun arts & crafts night!  On Thursday December 4th from 6-8pm you can enjoy creating arts & crafts as well as hearing ouir school Choirs singing holiday songs.  We hope to see you there!

This year you will be able to:

* Paint tiles or make a hand print tile.  Accessories such as trivets will be available for purchase.

* Create homemade laminated snowflake placemats.

* Make a cute as a button holiday ornament personalized with a picture of your child.  Pictures will be available at this art station.

* Create personalized holiday cards.

* Drop off your Adopt-A-Family donation

We are in need of parent volunteers to help supervise tables the evening of craft night.  If you would like to help with this exciting and fun family event, please contact Leah Lawson.  This is a great opportunity for your middle school or high school students to earn volunteer time.

Adopt-A-Family ~ thru the 9th!

It’s the time of year to get in the spirit of giving.  Picnic Point Elementary is participating in the Adopt A Family program to help six families in need within our school district.  Each grade has been given one family to purchase toys, games and/or family need items.   If you'd like to see a copy of the list of items, please click here.

The families we are assigned are of the highest need – they may be have been homeless, have an illness and/or have been (or still are) unemployed.  Please know that these families are very appreciative of what they receive.

This is a great opportunity to teach our children the value of giving.  One way your child can help is in the decision process of what to buy.  Making a donation by check (payable to Picnic Point PTA) or gift card is also a great idea.  The Adopt-A-Family committee will purchase the items that are still needed for your assigned family.

The last day to send in new, unwrapped gifts to your class is Tuesday December 9th.  Thank you in advance.

Do you have a new or gently used mattress / lap top / adult male bike that you’re looking to donate?  We have a need so please contact me if you’re interested in making a donation of any of those items.

If you have any questions, please contact – Sandi Young sandiyoung96@comcast.net

Money for Schools

Check out our "money for schools" page to find out how you can be earning cash for Picnic Point just by doing your shopping!  If you're doing any of your holiday shopping online,  make sure to sign up & shop through escrip to earn cash back for our school!  Escrip also supports the Safeway program, so register your Safeway cards!  Happy Shopping!

Safety alert

Just a reminder!  The speed limit in front of the school & in all school zones is 20 mph!  Whether you're late or not, it's always better to be safe.

Also remember to park at least 20 feet from a cross walk, this enables our children & the safety patrol to see oncoming traffic better.

 Help keep our kids safe!

Student Banking ~ Wednesday

Saving up those pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and dollars?  Want to see how they can add up in a savings account?  Then join us on Wednesday mornings before school in the pod across from kindergarten.  WAMU offers your child a free School Savings account until they are 18.  This program has been in the schools for many years.

Every Wednesday from 8:30 - 8:50am your child can deposit money into their Washington Mutual School Savings account at school.  For every 2 deposits a fun little prize is awarded.  If your child would like to open a WAMU Schools Savings account, new account packages can be picked up in the office, with Barb Eli on Wednesday mornings or simply by sending Barb an email with your child's name and teacher, she will make sure to get one to them.  If you had an account at a different school and would like to start banking at Picnic Point, come on Wednesday morning and we will get your account transferred to Picnic Point.

Lost & Found

Is your child missing something?  Check the lost & found in the office any time.  Items are also put out during PTA events so you can take a peek and see if something looks familiar!  Don't forget to look here if your child is missing something.  As of December 3rd, all items collected (including several coats!) since September have been donated to those who are in need.  PLEASE remember to check the lost & found if you're looking for something!

Snow Day Info

It may not be snowing yet but when it does we want you to know how to access info on school closures.  You can call the school's 24-hour information line at 710-4492, press ‘9’ and you will hear a recorded message on the status of school for that day. You can also check the School Report at www.mukilteo.wednet.edu.

On days that alternate bus routes are announced, here are some of the changes:

·         Admiralty Way from 148th St SW to Lincoln Way will be picked up at Admiralty Way & Lincoln

·         Norma Beach Rd area will be picked up at 60th Ave. W. & 147th St. SW

·         Regatta Estates, WindnTide, Puget Sound Blvd. and Possession Lane areas will be picked up at 140th St. SW and Picnic Point Road

Information on school closures/alternate route days may also be found on local TV & radio stations.

Flu shots now recommended for all children

This year the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expanded its recommendations about who should get the flu vaccine to include children aged six months through 18 years. Young children have high rates of serious influenza infection and all children can carry the virus or get sick and then pass the illness to family members including infants, adults, seniors, and to others at high-risk for complications.  Immunizing children of all ages will reduce illness, as well as potential transmission.

Influenza, unlike the common cold, has a swift onset of severe symptoms beginning with two to seven days of fever, headache, muscle aches, extreme fatigue, runny nose and sore throat, and a cough that is often severe and may last seven days or more.  Influenza can also be a risk factor for serious bacterial pneumonia, including MRSA.

Some healthcare providers also offer flumist, a nasal spray.  This is a great alternative for those who are reluctant to have a shot.

Other ways to protect yourself from the flu:
As always, healthy habits can limit the spread of contagious illnesses, including the flu, cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands often, avoid close contact with ill people, and stay home from work, school, and other public settings when ill.
