It was a bright sunny morning. 13 year old Kiki was sitting on a meadow grass listening to her radio. She then sat up and began to run. She ran under a fence. She saw a man and waved hi. She ran straight to her Mother's Green House were Kiki's mother was mixing some Herbs. Kiki told her mother that she can go that night to become a witch in training. Kiki's mother becomes nervous as her 13 year old daughter still didn't master making potions. Kiki ran upstairs to her room and began to open her drawers and take out clothes and put them in a bag. Kiki's cat, Jiji, was with her. Jiji wasn't that happy about Kiki and him going that night to find a new city. Kiki's father arrives downstairs with his car full of camping equipment. Kiki shouts to her father that she is going that night. Kiki's father gets a bit sad and asks her what about their family vacation. Kiki apologizes and keeps packing.
Kiki's father comes up to her room and talks to her about going. Kiki then asks her dad to hold her up like when he did that when she was a kid. Her father does that and Kiki is thrilled. She then tells her father and mother that she is talking her radio along.
That night, Kiki was standing outside with the other villagers and talking to some village girls. All the girls were excited and were talking about boys. Kiki's mother comes up to Kiki and gives her a broom. Kiki refuses and says that she had made a broom herself. Kiki's mother tells her that her broom might not be safe and that her mother's broom will be more trusty. Kiki accepts and soon, Kiki and Jiji were flying in the air.
On the way, Kiki and Jiji meet a girl that has just came back to her city. Kiki gets surprised because this witch's city was big. The girl tells Kiki that her power is reading fortunes of love, then she flew down to her city. Kiki gets concerned about her powers because she didn't know them yet. Suddenly, a huge thunder cloud and rain had hit Kiki and Jiji. The two flew down and hid inside a train. While the two sleeped in a hay stack inside the train, the train began to move.
The next day, Kiki woke up by a cow licking her feet. Kiki and Jiji had slept in the cow's food! Kiki wore her clothes and opened the top of the train to look outside. She was surprised because she saw the ocean. Kiki had always loved the ocean, as for Jiji, it's no big deal for him! The two soon flew to a city in the ocean. Kiki flew to a clock tower in the city and asked the man if there was any witch in training in that city. The man replied no so Kiki decided to live in the city. After making a big accident. An officer goes to Kiki and asks her for her parents' phone number so he can report her. Kiki gets frightened. Suddenly, someone called "Hey, Stop thief!" the policeman ordered Kiki to stay were she was and went to see the person who cried. Kiki began to walk away and ignored the policeman's order. Suddenly, a boy on a bicycle comes up to Kiki. The boy tells Kiki that he was the one who shouted "Thief" to distract the policeman and save Kiki. He then asked Kiki if she can teach him how to ride a broom. Kiki kept walking and ignored the boy. The boy kept riding his bicycle beside her though. Kiki finally turned and shouted at the boy saying it was impolite to talk to her before he knew her name. The boy smiled and said she sounded like his grandma. A couple of boys came by in the car and shouted at the boy (who is called Tombo) that he is in love with kiki. Kiki stomped off in anger.
After a long day, Kiki didn't find a place to sleep. She then walked down and saw a bakery. A pregnant woman had just walked out shouting and holding a pacifier. It appears that a costumer of hers forgot her baby's pacifier. Kiki goes up to the woman (who owns the bakery) and tells her she can deliver it. The woman was shocked when Kiki jumped from top (the bakery was on top of a hill). The woman then smiled when she found out Kiki was a witch. After delivering the pacifier, Kiki came back to the bakery shop. The woman offered her a cup of hot chocolate and Jiji some milk. Kiki soon found out that the woman's name was Osono. Osono then allowed Kiki to stay and live with them. Kiki lived in the attic with Jiji.
The next day, Kiki went out for shopping. On her way to the store, she passed a couple of girls that wore better clothes than her. She went and bought some food (which was expensive for her) then began walking. Kiki noticed a pair of shoes she had loved. Even though, Kiki couldn't afford buying them.
