Fun Facts
Here are some interesting little-known facts about Princess Tutu.

  • It took Princess Tutu creator Itoh Ikuko ten years to fully develop the characters and plot of Princess Tutu.

  • The Japanese Voice Actor who plays Fakir, Sakurai Takahiro, also starred in the popular game-based film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in the role of Cloud.

  • In the manga verison of Princess Tutu, Edel-san's role is completely different. Not only is she human, but she is a well-endowed and seductive sort of character in appearance.

  • Another interesting manga difference; in the manga, Ahiru is not a duck! Another dramatic difference is that Drosselmeyer is completely absent from the story.

  • There is a slight issue with fans concerning exactly how many episodes were released of Princess Tutu. Some claim that the series ran for 26 episodes, while others state that it was in fact 38 episodes long. Sadly, the first of the two statements is true; there were 26 episodes of Princess Tutu made. However, for episodes 14 through 26, each episode was divided into two "acts"; with each act being aired weekly on Japanese television. Due to this mishap, the 12-minute 'acts' are often reffered to as full episodes, which makes things just plain confusing.

  • In ADV Films' translation of Princess Tutu, many names are changed. "Ahiru" is simply "Duck", and "Kinkan Town" becomes "Golden Crown Town".

  • Hikari no Kiseki's fansub project of Princess Tutu was started before the 'official romanized names' of the characters in the series were printed. Because of this, for nearly half of the series the characters are reffered to by different names. "Mytho" was called "Mute"; "Kraehe" was "Claire"; "Fakir" was "Fakia", along with a few other name changes. This is another one of those fun mishaps that makes it so that things can be more confusing, considering some fans like to refer to Mytho as Mute and so on. The only thing that would make the names harder to juggle would be if someone changed "Ahiru" to simply "Duck"-- oh wait! So they have.

  • For the japanese DVD release of Princess Tutu, a three minute trailer was animated from scratch, featuring Ahiru's narrative. This promotional trailer is not only pretty, but it features two suggested kissing scenes that do not occur in the series, and a re-animated version of Tutu's transformation. This trailer can be found, subtitled, on Youtube.

  • Another odd ADV films translation; in the English Dub of Princess Tutu, the menacing Monster Raven and Raven Princess are instead reffered to as the Monster Crow and the Crow Princess. Identically, all other references to the ravens are changed to speak of crows.

  • Princess Tutu was named "Best Shoujo of 2006" by Wizard's Anime Insider magazine.

  • Another Princess Tutu Anime Insider mention; in their August issue, it is described how the staff of the magazine will have loud arguments over who the "Best Magical Girl" is. Then, the writer of the article cheerfully states, "For the record, it's Princess Tutu." Take that, Sailor Moon!

  • In the English dub of the fifth disc of the ADV release Fakir is caught saying: "That's right... I can write a letter to the president." This was not present in the original Japanese audio and speculation would lead one to conclude that Chris Patton took his own liberties with the script.

  • The fictional city which Princess Tutu takes place in is actually based off of the real German city Nördlingen.
