Step 1: Getting your character ready

To create your character, we will be using this form:

Name:
Age:
Rank:
Gender:
Personality:
Appearance:
History:
Pet(s):
Dragon Preferences:
Adoption?:

First, the name. A seemingly simple aspect, but there are some things to consider. Rider honorifics are encouraged to always have consonants after the apostrophe. Second, please no Terran names, such as Susan or Johnathan. Other than that, just be reasonable in your choice. Picking something that sounds a bit Pernese is always good.

Age is important based on what Rank the character has, and where you want them to be in their life. A 12 Turn old is not going to be a full fledged Rider, nor is a 35 Turn old going to be a Candidate. Just pick something appropriate to their character. Candidates are accepted at an age no lower than 13 Turns. Boys may stand until they are 21 Turns old and girls until they are 23.

A character's Rank must make sense with all other given information. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.

Personality is the fun part of your character's description. You get to describe their usual behavioral tendencies (and why, where appropriate. Most of the "why" should be reasoned through their history, if it is not in the personality section). A good paragraph here is nice. No lists please.

Appearance is often the shortest part of a character's bio, and that's just fine. Please make sure to tell us your character's eye and hair color, skin tone, height, build (slim, stalky, broad, chubby, etc.), and any other relevant information. Their usual clothing description, if you want to include one, belongs in this section (you can mention certain colors or styles they like to wear). No lists.

History is always the longest part of a character's biography. Make sure to include where they grew up and with whom, any major childhood events or dreams. The more you fit here the better! Be creative. (If you want your character to be related to a Lord Holder, or someone of high rank, you will need an outstanding character bio. Also, your character must be related to an existing NPC of Rank. Ask Kaya for more details on getting your character to be a relative of a Ranking NPC.)

Pets include firelizards, small felines, and canines. Runners are not permitted at Weyrs, but can be listed as previously owned pets. Please list a name and coloration for each pet and include them in your character's history.

Dragon Preferences are for Candidate and to-be Candidate characters only. It is a place to list approximately three colors of dragon you would like your character to Impress. You are not guaranteed any of these colors by listing them. You may also break this section into "My Preferences" and "My Character's Preferences" if, for example, you personally would most like your Candidate to Impress a Blue, but in character, he most wants a Bronze, and so on. You may also select "No Preference". Lists permitted.

The Adoption question is an important section. It determines what happens to your character in the event you are gone from the guild with no word about your absence for over three months. If you select "Yes" then your character will be put up for adoption by other members of the role playing guild. If you select "No" your character will, in most cases, be transferred to Waterfall Valley Weyr to gently ease them out of the story line, at which point they may be reintroduced into the role play upon your return. If a character is adopted during your absence, the adopter has all rights to the character and is not obligated to give control of the character back to you. You may ask, but it is entirely up to the adopter. You may change your adoption preference at any time by indicating it on your character's information page. If your character is an important character of Rank, they may be shifted into the Foster Character system, where they will be role played in important situations where they are needed until they can be moved to Waterfall Valley Weyr or adopted out to another role player.

Step 2: Setting up your character page

Each character you create needs their biography to be stored somewhere. Where is up to you, but the most commonly used site is webs.com.

When styling your character page we don't require much. If you want to go all out and create a stellar layout, by all means go ahead. But we also accept just the text bios in default black on a pure white back ground. All we ask is that you put space between the sections and paragraphs (usually these are in the history section). This can be accomplished with a simple < br > tag (just take out the spaces!).

Here are some examples of character pages:

Step 3: Joining Rainbow Mists Weyr

The first thing you need is a Neopets account, as RMW is run on Neopets. If you do not have an account, you may click here to join, or here to join and give Kaya a referral point. It only takes a minute. If a username you like is taken, try using a character name. Examples: Gold_Queen_Kayleth, Bronzerider_Tmas, Lith_the_Green

If you want, you can make a neopet to keep your character bios on. That's another fairly common place to put them.

Step 4: Getting your character approved

This part isn't that hard. Just send Kaya, the Weyrwoman, either an email (weyrwoman_kaya[@]yahoo.com) or a neomail saying you've finished preparing your character and that he or she is pending approval. Make sure to let Kaya know where the page is located.

Since RMW is hosted through Neopets any off-site link needs to be formatted as followed:
Freewebs: webs of free
Geocities: cities of geo
Webs: leave as webs, give the site's name

Ex: My character page is a webs of free, titled charriesofkaya
Means: My character page is located at www.freewebs.com/charriesofkaya

You're almost done! Now you just have to wait for your character to be approved. This is a good time to introduce yourself on the board if you haven't already. Once your bio is read, you will receive a message letting you know if you need to make any revisions (nearly everyone does, whether it's a typo, or your bio history doesn't quite match up with our world's records). Just revise and resubmit. This last part is very quick and your character should be approved by the next time Kaya is online.

Step 5: Have fun!

Now that your character is complete and ready to go here's a quick list of ideas for settings.

  • The Beach: A warm area, cooling to breezy comfortable temperatures at night. Swimming is a favored activity here, though the occasional flitt egg Clutch is found. Some people just like to go for walks here, and perhaps walk for a bit to spend a day at Cliff-Side Sea Hold.
  • The Paths around the Jungle: A simple dirt path surrounded by a multitude of tropical trees. An ideal place for chatting, don't you think?
  • The Candidate Barracks Entrance: Before the tunnels wind away to private quarters, there is a large cave area in which a few friends or strangers can talk. (about five chairs provided)
  • A Waterfall Pool: the sound of falling water, the misty air, the swirling pool. What better place to take a bath or dip your feet in the water? Dragons are also washed in these pools at times.
  • The Higher Rock Paths: There are pathes leading up the rockier hills onto flat areas where one can over look the valley. There are about two, and they make rather nice vistas, though not comfortable seats.
  • The Kitchens: Food, gossip, and people in a generally good mood. You can almost always find someone here.
  • The Weyr Bowl: Dragons and Riders bustle through this place like it's Main Street. Perhaps someone will stop a moment to talk to you...
  • The Halls Throughout the Weyr: Where else is better to run into someone new? (Perhaps a bit too literally)
  • Your Assigned Barrack: Meet your roommates; fun, right?

    Chronology of Holds & Weyrs

    Time Line of Construction:
Turn 199: Sky Mountain Weyr, Dragon Ridge Hold
Turn 03: Rainbow Mists Weyr, Golden Flight Hold
    Turn 04: Cliff-Side SeaHold
    Turn 07: Lament Hold

RMW and Golden Flight Hold were founded in the third Turn of this present pass. Cliff-Side SeaHold was built during the fourth Turn and Lament Hold during the seventh. Dragon Ridge Hold and Sky Mountain Weyr were finished and inhabited starting in the last Turn of the previous Interval (Turn 199). Other holdings have been established long enough that at least several generations have passed there.
