Welcome to the information section. This should give you all the information on Machi you could want!
(Contains unmarked spoilers.)

Machi is first introduced in Volume 7 of the Fruits Basket manga.
Machi is seen walking down the hall while talking to Kakeru Manabe. Manabe talks about Yuki Sohma, remarking that "The new president is beautiful. Machi seems relatively uninterested in Yuki. Manabe asks why she doesn't show interest in the people around her. Machi stays silent.
Machi doesn't show up in the manga again until Volume 9, when her character is introduced formally. Yuki walks into the new Student Council room too see Machi stooped over on the ground with books and papers all over the room. When seeing Yuki Machi stands up and says she'll clean up the mess.
Machi is a very quiet and shy girl. And within the first three volumes she's in she only has 21 speech bubbles. Most of which are filled with "...."
She is the complete opposite of a perfectionist, and is very, very messy.

Machi's role in the manga is that of the Treasure of the Student Council, otherwise known as "The School Defense Force" as nicknamed by Manabe.
Machi's character also adds a great deal of comic relief and heartwarming moments. Throughout the series her character grows from silent to finding out she's just lonely.
She seems to be a promising character and maybe more and more we'll discover more about her.
If your wondering why Machi and the rest of the student council were never in the anime, well the answer is simple; the anime had ended by the time Machi was introduced.

♦ Kakeru Manabe
Manabe and Machi at first have a quite confusing relationship which many thought may have been romantic. Manabe is very protective of Machi and they seem to get along very well, although Manabe might be a little bossy towards her.
Later on in the series we find out that the relationship isn't romantic but in fact Manabe is Machi's half-brother.

♦ Yuki Sohma
Machi is very respectful and humble acting towards Yuki. He often tries to get Machi to come out of her shell, and is sometimes successful.
The two share many moments together and it is indeed confirmed in Chapter 125 that Machi loves Yuki and he loves her back. In the end of the chapter the two are seen walking together holding hands. Many fans speculate that they are now dating. Which is confirmed in chapter 128 when Yuki tries to kiss Machi but the two are interrupted when the other student council members walk in. This leaves Machi very embarrased.

In chapter 131 when the curse is broken, Yuki hugs and kisses Machi, indeed showing that he loves her.

Not much is known about what Machi likes, but it is known however that Machi likes the color red, stomping around in virgin snow. And she loves Mogeta.

Machi's obsessive effort to keep things from being perfect is because perfection frightens her. Why you ask? Well Machi's mother always urged Machi to be perfect. She always wanted her daughter to be better than Manabe, so as Machi would be the head of the family when her father died.
But when Machi's parents had another child Machi was deemed "boring" by her mother and was replaced. One night Machi went to her baby brother's room to check up on him. He looked cold so she decided to put a blanket on him, just as she did her parents came in and accused her of trying to smother her brother because she was jealous.
Machi ended up moving into her own apartment, to keep from complications between her and her parents. Her apartment is always messy, a testament to her hate of all things perfect.
