Due to the notoriously slow and beaurocratic nature of government bodies and the fear that certain elements may try to stifle bold ideas or that progressive policy makers may act a little too cautiously, members of the public feel it necessary to meet independently in parallel with these civic institutions to create pressure, presentations and proposals to educate and inspire state,countyy& city government officials, commission members and business leaders to expedite real progress toward the social, economic and environmental sustainability goals that the commission is charged to advise the Mayor and City Council to attain.
By forming this coalition we combine our efforts and voices and, hopefully, therefore get a real response from City officials. If representatives of the CSC were permitted to sit at the table, it would indicate the sincerity and non-exclusivity of the commission.
