Tutorials: Website Tips
My opinions on creating an awesome website
Don't steal.
If you steal, you most likely be caught. No one likes stealing. If you do steal, people are mostly likely gonna trash your tagboards. Examples of stealing:copying someone's quotes or tutorials, copying someone's layout, claiming someone's graphics/stuff as your own, copying someone's css, etc.
A good layout and CSS.
First impression is very important. People judge your site by your layout. I always judge people's layout :P A good layout should be simple. It shouldn't be cluttered with stuff. It should have a nice color schemes. Do NOT use bright colors like fuschia or lime green! They hurt your visitors' eyes. Not to mention your own eyes. You should have a decent CSS. It is best that you make your own layout and CSS.
Navigation.
Your site should be easy to navigate. Your navigation links should be very easy to find. If people have a hard time figuring out how to get to your other pages, they are probably not gonna return. You shouldn't have links to all your pages. You should categorize your pages into categories such as site, content, tutorials, etc. And make a page for each category. For example, a link to your blends could be found on your Graphics/content page.
Music
Having music on your site is nice, but it can cause some problems. For example, if you have a layout that doesn't use iframes, this means that every time you click on a link, the entire page changes, right? Well, this also means that every time you go to another page, the music will stop, and you'll probably have to restart the music. Pretty annoying. Also, what if your visitors are already listening to their own music? Uf your music starts automatically, it will disrupt your visitors' music. That's also very annoying.
Speaking
Try not to type in chat speak or have poor spelling and grammar. It's ALOT easier to read and understand normal writing. Also, don't put alot of foul or rude words on your site. It can offend your visitors.
Content
Have high quality content, if you're making a resource/pixeling/etc site. Remember: quality, not quantity. Make your own content. Do not take other peoples' stuff. It's not original. It's ok if you don't have fancy programs like PSP or Adobe Photoshop. Paint is a very nice program itself. I've made many nice stuff using just paint. You can also download free programs like Giffy and Unfreez. Just search the web for some free programs. Don't forget that you can download free trials of PSP. You can do alot during your free trial.
Credits
Always credit others. If you use someone's brushes, scans, stocks, etc or even learned something, it is always good to credit them. You should definitely make a credits page.
Site Name
Have a unique, outstanding site name. Have a name that relates to your site or you. Have something unique like "turtle", but not something common like "designs" :P You could combine something totally opposite such as: FunkySwirls, or ChlorinatedCalcualtors, Idk, the possibilities are endless.
