The USS Immolator is based upon the Excelsior III class. She is a more secretive ship (most of her missions are classified), thus her exact dates of construction and commission are classified. Just as the ship's name suggests, she has nothing to do with peace. She is a warship.
While the ship is based upon the Excelsior III chassis, it has been extensively modified. It has been fitted with advanced weapons, such as quantum torpedoes and more powerful phaser banks than the "standard" Excelsior-class. The ship saw much service during the dominion war and against the Borg in various battles. She was used mainly as one of Starfleet Command's "covert ops" ships. She carries a small complement of Federation troops, in addition to her normal complement of security personel. Her shields have been upgraded extensively and at launch, she was fitted with a cloaking device (similar to the USS Defiant).
The crew on board are a very secretive breed, as can be expected from a ship that tries to keep a low profile. When docked at Federation spacestations for resupply, etc. the ship's commissar can be seen wandering through the decks, ready to cath any stowaways or unauthorized personell.
