What is tea? It's the second most popular beverage on the planet, next to water. It's made from the the leaf of an herb, soaked in water, and dranked for taste or purely for health.

As a child my mother made a large pitcher of it each day, placing it outside in the sun for a couple of hours before adding squeezed lemons, sugar and lots of ice. At night, my parents would sip hot tea from a cup, adding heavy cream and oddly, no sugar. To this day, I like my tea prepared in this manner. The difference is that I only drink green or black tea and its purpose is mostly medicinal.

TeaBesides tasting good, drinking tea has been known to cure illnesses and it purifies the body. An article in the Jounal of the National Cancer Institute, published in 1994, said that the consumption of green tea could reduce some cancers by up to 60% and that it lowers cholesterol levels, improving good and bad cholesterol. This should be a clear indication that we all should be drinking green tea. Furthermore, it's proven to help in rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease and infections.

Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenois. This is a very strong anti-oxidant that inhibits cancer cell growth.

An interesting discovery found that the French, although known to consume diets high in fat, tend to have fewer heart related diseases than Americans. A study proved that another powerful anti-oxidant known as resveratrol was found in wine, part of the French lifestyle. The fact is that resveratrol isn't even as strong as the anti oxidant agent found in green tea, so imagine how greater the benefits if the wine was tea instead. Green tea is a modern-day miracle used by Japenese as far back as ancient times. This is why the Japanese have very low incidents of heart disease. There can be side affects to drinking tea and you should read THIS before making tea-drinking a habit for life. It's suggested that you drink tea in moderation for optimum health. And it can't hurt to do a detoxification program to eliminate harmful elements from your body from time to time.

Dr. Carrie Ruxton, a health nutritionist at King's College London says that drinking tea is better than drinking water. Water puts fluids back into the body and tea does the same while adding antioxidants.

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, then tea for one," as the old saying goes.

Tea is known to aide in weight loss. I've recently learned of one that can take off 20 lbs in 3 weeks. Celebrities such as Oprah, Madonna, Angelina Jolie and many more have used it and testify to extraordinary results. Visit Wu-Long to learn more.
