General Information about Xanadu Weyr
-----------------------------------------

Xanadu is set on the shore of the Caspian Lake, a short distance north of the 
Azov Sea, and the Weyr inhabits the same sheltered valley as the original 
Xanadu Stakehold. Climate wise, it is sub tropical, bordering on temperate 
and most of the turn is a very pleasant temperature.
Founded just after the nine pass drew to an end, Xanadu has been occupied 
continuously ever since and is essentially self sufficient as the Northern 
Weyrs are not. Farmland has been established outside the Weyr valley with 
cotholders tending the fields. However, most of the Weyr's bounty comes from 
payment for services rendered or through foraging the surrounding 
countryside. The presence of dragons enables such foraging over a wide enough 
area to avoid stripping the land.
Xanadu has always been closely linked to Landing and is the 'tech-junkie' 
Weyr of Pern. Xanadu's residents are early adopters of any new technology and 
this includes electric lighting through the Weyr powered by windmills, 
computers freely available to it's populace and a high level of radio use -- 
both in handheld versions used on the ground by non riders and more powerful 
sets capable of bridging vast distances. Aside from the Landing itself and 
the Techcraft Hall, Xanadu has more modern gizmos than anywhere else on Pern.
These days, Xanadu is a tranquil Weyr by most standards. Protected from 
having to deal directly with Holders unless they wish to and supported by the 
bounty of the Southern Continent, Xanadu lacks for little.
